Quick question,during my interview yesterday in New York,I was made to sign the left side of the photos I sent in with my application. Is that the picture they use for the naturalization certificate? Also I can't recall signing any part of the application I submitted in front of the officer,but I did go through the yes or no questions. Did anyone sign their applications in front of the officer during the interview? I think it's part 17 of the application.

yes i did sign the application in front of the officer and the sign that i did on left side of the photo are printed on left side of my photo on my certificate.

I-90 Green Card Timeline

05/29/2014: Applied for I-90, Due to an Name Error.

06/12/2014: Biometrics Appointment

02/13/2015: Green Card Was Ordered To Be Produced

02/20/2015: Green Card Has Been Mailed.(Received Tracking Number)

02/23/2015: Green Card Received With Correct Name

07/05/2012 = Eligible to apply for Naturalization based on the 5-year rule (90-days rule applied)

01/11/2015 = Sent N-400 Packet (to Phoenix Lockbox Facility via USPS Certified Mail)

01/15/2015 = N-400 Packet Delivered

01/27/2015 = I-912 Approved

02/02/2015 = NOA1 Received (Priority Date 01/15/2015)

02/07/2015 = Biometrics Letter Received (Bio Set for 02/20/2015)

Thank you for responding,I signed it as well as the photos. My friend had her interview and she didn't sign hers,only the photos,so I was trying to see if its mandatory for everyone to sign it. I got approved,she didn't get approve the same day.

You probably meant to type 06/23/15 as your interview date not 05/23/15 which is just a day apart??? Good luck.

I interviewed on Tuesday and was approved. I went over the application with the officer with the Yes and and No questions,but I can't recall being made to sign it. Only thing I signed was the left side of the photos I sent in with the application. Here's where I need help,my friend's interview was in NY as well on Monday,everything went smoothly until he asked her if she ever failed to file a tax return to which she replied "no"he asked if she owed on taxes she said "yes" and that she has a payment plan with the IRS. He asked for what year? She said 2012 and 2013? He asked the amount? She told him. He was like we are in 2015 why are you owing taxes from since then? Did you not file? She said yes,but she didn't pay the tax bill as she wasn't working. He said ok. Do you have proof of your payments with the IRS? That's what she forgot to bring. He then went through the name change with her. Her birth certificate has a different name and she has an affidavit that says that name on her birth certificate which is just a middle name and the name she uses is the same person. She dropped one of the middle names and she signed three pieces of papers with the new name and he asked her to do the same on the picture. At the end of the interview he gave her a paper N-652 which is ticked of that she passed the English and civics test,another tick is USCIS will send her a decision in writing,another one says a decision cannot be yet made about your application. When she asked why? He said he has to review her file and it can take up to 120 days,but that's just an estimated time,it could be in 30 days. Exactly what does all of this mean? Also he requested her two passports and photocopied the pages with the pic and name only. All the items marked of on the N-652 was in red ink. Any input on this? I got an N-652 in red ink but it says congratulations.

Am sorry about your friends interview. I hope they will approve her . or may be they will send her RFE OR aoth ceremony letter, tell her to sit tight. but i dont have much insight about this problem in which am also having the same issue. I just dont know how to deal with it. it been my worries for this citizenship journey. I thought i worked in 2013, so i filled for 2013 taxes this year (2015), using the 1040a, but not knowing that year i did not work. i filled for unemployment. so it means i did not make enough money to file for taxes. so now i have to contact irs to tell them that it was an error and i will fill for amendment. this is so complecated that i hope it wont have any effect on my citizenship.

She failed to provide documentation that she has a payment plan with the IRS, they take that very seriously, they will probably schedule another interview asking her to bring that documentation. I could be wrong but looks like that is the main reason for her not to get an approval at the moment.

Actually she showed the payment plan signed by the IRS agreeing to pay $300 on the 12th of every month. What she didn't do was print out her checks from her account showing that she's been paying. Did any of you sign your application in front of the officer? Is that mandatory? I didn't sign mines. I only did the yes and no questions,then he asked me to sign the left side of the photos I sent in with the application. I've been looking at other forums about my friend's situation and 30 days letter some people get oath letters. I'm hoping it's the same for her.

Her we go again. I'm with my friend now and I'm looking at her letter. She has several items ticked off from the N-652.

1: you've passed the English and civics test. That was in red ink ticked off by the interviewing officer.

2: USCIS will send you a written decision about your application. Again ticked off in red ink by the officer.

3: there's option A on the form which says congratulations etc,then there's option B which says a decision cannot be yet made on your application. Hers is ticked off in red by the officer.

Beneath that there are 6 items ticked off but I guess it's computer generated because mines is the same.

1: notify USCIS if you change your address

2: come to any scheduled interview

3: submit all requested documents

4: send any documents in writing to the officer named above,include A number,full name,and a copy of this paper.

5: go to any oath story that you are scheduled to attend

6: notify USCIS as soon as possible if you can't come to any schedule interview.

At the bottom says something about having the right to a hearing and USCIS has 120 days to make a decision which the officer circled in red ink.

Is this a normal letter? Mines is the same minus the A where it says congratulations etc.

1) yes, you should have signed your application during the interview.

2) your friend didn't get a decision probably because of the tax issue. They may want to verify that she's actually making the payments. They may send her a letter asking for more evidence or they may verify it themselves and approve her.

Thank you Jimmy. I don't recall signing my application during the interview. I only recall going through the yes and no questions and then signing the photos. She has everything printed out and ready to mail to them if requested. Would they call me again to come sign the application? How does this work?
