@bkboy77 my interview is coming up on May 21st in NYC. A bit nervous. I'm filing under the 5 year rule. Can you recall the questions you were asked? Did they check your documents?

It's okay to be nervous. I think it is just a mature and healthy reaction in this situation. I had the same set of questions as dooger.

The civic questions were:

1.Who is the Governor of your state now?

2.What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

3.Who was the first President?

4. What did Martin Luther King, Jr do?

5.Where is the statue of Liberty?

6.Name two national US holidays.

As for documents, the officer asked for my passport and my driver's license. He did ask for a social security card (which isn't a document in the list to bring either on the interview letter or the yellow letter that I received.) I did not bring it but the officer was super chill about it and said that it was okay.

Congratulations for every one did his interview already and got approved ....and good luck for all others still waiting as me and everyone else .....please guys if any one apply to field office NEWARK NJ and still waiting post his experience and when did he apply and when he did fingerprints to try to get a picture of when we can get our interview...i just went yesterday to INFOPASS appointment and they said still pending and i did my fingerprints more than 3 months ago !!!!!

please share your experience guys with NEWARK NJ office....GOOD LUCK FOR EVERY ONES HERE.

It took me a month after fingerprints to be placed inline for an interview and 3 weeks after that to be scheduled for an interview and received my interview letter in the mail. i did see that you did your fingerprints on 02-10-15 ..i did mine on 02-04-15 and until now i didn't receive anything online or letters, so i went for infopass 2 days ago and they said your case is pending just wait !!!! i almost wait now 4 months since i send my application, how long more i have to wait, Newark office has time frame online for max 5 months and its been 4 months already now and i didn't got any updates !!!

could you please let me know that you apply under 3 years or 5 years ?

Right after that, I went to Passport Agency office and applied for my Passport. They said it will be ready to pick up tomorrow afternoon! can't believe that there are only 3 days between the interview and passport in hand!

The State Department website says that appointments are required everywhere, but some agencies don't seem to enforce this (I guess Detroit is one of them).

Note that the agencies that are more busy insist that you have proof of travel within 2 weeks in order to apply at a passport agency.

Less busy offices say that you don't need proof of travel.

If you check the link, you'll see that San Diego and Detroit don't need proof of travel whereas Houston does.

i have question please, what is the difference between applying for passport at the post office and at passport agency?

Some post offices act as receiving facilities for passport applications. They then send the applications to a State Department office to be processes. The same goes for some court houses and libraries which can also accept passport applications.

Passport agencies on the other hand are State Department offices that can process passport applications and produce passport cards on site. There are only a handful of these around the country. They usually require appointments and sometimes require a reason why your application needs to be expedited.

At a receiving facility you have the choice of filing a standard application or paying extra for an expedited application. At a passport agency, you will have to pay for the expedited application.

Fees are described here: $120 for a standard application plus $60 for an expedited application. Additional fees if you want a passport card or if you want overnight delivery.
