My husband had his interview in Chicago on the 29th and was approved!!! Hooray!!!

I could not attend due to obligations at work, so he went alone, which posed no issues whatsoever (after all, I couldn't have gone into the interview, anyway). I wanted to post a detailed explanation of how it went for you all, but he said he was SO nervous that it just flew by. Of the civics questions, he could only remember two of the six he was asked (the name of the chief justice of the supreme court and how many years a senator's term is). Overall, he said it was very, very easy. Just so long as you can answer "no" and "yes" to all the right questions and you have your paperwork in order, there's no need to worry. I am the documents freak in this marriage, and since we were filing on the 3-year marriage rule, I prepared some extra evidence of our relationship (car titles, loan papers, etc), and none of that was even needed at all.

My husband was given a paper saying he was approved, and he was told he will receive a letter regarding the oath ceremony but that the ceremony should be in about a month's time. I guess I will update when we know that date.

We both feel an incredible amount of relief now!!! Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting for their interview!!!

Congrats!

I had my Interview today, it went pretty smoothly as expected. My interview was at 10:25, I got there 15 minutes early, and got called in almost on time. Before starting the official questions, the officer asked about my job and where I work. Then he started with Reading/Writing test followed by six civic questions:

  • What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?
  • What movement tried to end racial discrimination?
  • What did Martin Luther King, Jr. do?
  • Where is the Statue of Liberty?
  • Name two national U.S. holidays
  • Who was the first President?

Then, he reviewed the Yes/No questions and finally asked me about my Birth certificate, I told him that I was not asked to bring it to the interview but I had submitted that when applied for my GC. He said it is okay.

He gave me couple forms and papers and asked me to sign them, when I reached to the last page, I realized that is my case approval letter! He said do you have any question? I asked when will be the Oath ceremony, he said 2 days from now, May 7! Then he asked me to wait in the waiting area until they give the Oath Ceremony letter.

Whole process took about 1 hour.

Just two more days left!

Good Luck all.

I could not remember the questions I was asked today during my interview, but I find it interesting that from 2 different offices, we would have the exact same questions on the same day!

I had my oath ceremony today and am officially a us citizen!! It was held in Moaab , The Arches National Park so my Husband and I went down last night and made a trip out of it. It was supposed to be at a lookout but was raining so got moved inside. Started early as everyone was there. They started off with all different natuonalities, 4 of us were from UK:-) , and then a group of students sang national anthem. We then stood up and took oath. We didn't have to repeat word after word, just hold up right hand and say I Do. At the end there was a chance for anyone to come up with their stories. I'm quite a stoic, stiff upper lip, kind of person but even I got a lump in my throat. What was interesting was the woman conducting it urged us to keep embracing our cultures, thats what makes America what it is. Then we got certificates and had pictures. Also had a little'party pack' with letter from president, passport application, voting info etc.

Feels so good that I now have the same rights as everyone and can put all this behind me. Thank you to this site and everyone that has helped me over the years. Its because of you everything since 2008 has gone smoothly and I hadn't had to get an immigration lawyer.

Good luck to everyone. You have all worked so hard to get to this point!

Just finished my interview. The wait time took longer that the actual interview. Super nice immigration officer. He recommended my case for approval and that I should wait for an oath ceremony letter in the mail. He said that it usually takes between 1-2 months here in Brooklyn. I am just one step away from becoming a citizen. Thanks to everyone for their words of encouragement.

congrats, keep me posted when you get a text and/or email from them.

@bkboy77 my interview is coming up on May 21st in NYC. A bit nervous. I'm filing under the 5 year rule. Can you recall the questions you were asked? Did they check your documents?

Had my interview in Federal plaza few weeks ago, IO looked at my taxes downloaded from IRS web only (didn't take them though).

Questions:

1. Name Jury

2. War in 1900

3. How many representatives are there

4. When is the president election

I don't remember last two, was to nervous as you are probably :), but there is no reason for that - so just relax and let it be.

Good luck, all you need - you already know as a member of this forum, nothing will be unexpected for you.

Did my interview in San Francisco this morning - recommended for approval!!!

Got there 20 min early - my appointment was at 8:55 am, and there were already about 6-7 people waiting before me, some accompanied by their lawyers. The interview was very straightforward, took the oath, the officer went through the application line by line. I was glad I had reviewed it, had to remember a lot of dates like when I first got my green card, how many times I had been out of the country, date of the last trip etc. She looked through all my old passports (5 of them, I have been here a long time) and checked all the foreign stamps and visa's going back to the 1980's. The only question that took me by surprise was about my divorce - she wanted to know why my marriage of 25 years ended in divorce : ) A bit awkward...

The door was open and I could hear at least two other interviews being conducted by other officers. Some of the questioning sounded a bit aggressive/loud with questions like "are you telling the truth?", "are you sure you support the United States?" and the person being interviewed clearly having a hard time answering in English. Made me sad and reminded me what a vulnerable place some people are in.

The civic questions were:

1.Who is the Governor of your state now?

2.What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

3.Who was the first President?

4. What did Martin Luther King, Jr do?

5.Where is the statue of Liberty?

6.Name two national US holidays.

I was told I will receive a letter in the mail with final approval and the date for the oath ceremony.

Yes!!! Almost there.
