Looks like the right wingers were right about this after all. If not for real so at least in imaginary terms. :P

Ferguson Protestors Blocking Streets Cause Death Of Young Child

FERGUSON, Missouri -

Ferguson-Protestors-Block-Streets-Cause-

A young boy has died today because Ferguson protestors were blocking streets around the city, causing an ambulance to be stuck behind several miles of traffic. Joey Goldsmith, 5, needed an emergency appendectomy, and was being transported from his home to the hospital via ambulance.

“All these stupid people, they were out in the streets, wasting their time ‘protesting’ while my son died in the back of an ambulance,” said Maria Goldsmith, Joey’s mother. “If we could have gotten to the hospital, he would have been fine. Thousands of idiots out there, thinking they were changing a damn thing, and now I’ve lost my entire world.”

Throughout the entire country, protests based around the Michael Brown ruling have been popping up, with several arrests even being made in Boston, as well as New York during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. While the looting and riots in Ferguson have died down, the more “peaceful protests” are still going strong, but even those have been causing serious headaches throughout the city.

“I couldn’t get to work this morning because some group of do-gooders were out with their signs and megaphones, screaming and hollering. It wasn’t violent, but I’ll be damned if they didn’t hold up traffic. I was almost 2 hours late for work,” said Regina Myles, a nurse at a local hospital. “Look – it doesn’t matter which side of this cop shooting you fall on, lives are being interrupted by your ignorance. Get out of the damn streets, and do something worthwhile.”

“Well, not that anyone really cares how I feel at this point in time, but I was definitely annoyed at the amount of traffic there was,” said Officer Dylan Charles, of the Ferguson Police Department. “I mean, I’m certainly not going to say anything to these people directly, God knows what kind of shitstorm that could fire off. But really, calm down. Your protests are just dumb, and people need to be able to travel through the city without being held up. I mean for Christ’s sake, if I wanted to deal with fruitless protesting, I’d go to the Gaza Strip.”

Ferguson police say they are trying to work with the National Guard to keep protestors safe, and also keep traffic moving freely, so as not to kill anymore children or inconvenience anyone further.

One of these incidents took place shortly before 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Oxford Plaza, a 97-unit affordable housing complex between Shattuck Avenue and Fulton Street. Dispatch put out a radio broadcast about a 62-year-old man who had collapsed on the fifth floor of 2175 Kittredge St.

The fire dispatcher said the man was having “difficulty breathing, and sweating,” adding: “The subject will be in front of the elevator.”

She dispatched an engine and ambulance at 6:41 p.m.

I must say, hats off to the Berkley FD. They manage to dispatch their engines before the call for help comes in. That's terrific.

It's interesting how the copy spins the story like cotton candy...

No additional information about the Kittredge Street incident was available from the scanner recordings, but several people aware of the case said the man who was assisted by paramedics later died at the hospital. Though there is no way to know with certainty whether the man might have survived had paramedics reached him sooner — given the amount of information currently available — people familiar with the case said the demonstration posed a definite obstacle during the call.

Naturally, delays of emergency vehicles isn't something to take lightly. But what's presented here is a lot of "anonymous" reporting from unnamed sources and a heavy load of conjecture to boot. The reporting is also piss-poor as the glaring discrepancy between the time of the incident and the dispatch of the emergency response shows. Unless they have some special crystal ball in Berkley, it's simply impossible that the help is dispatched before it is requested. But why bother with detail?

And neither is the predicament of another person. This [berkeley story] reads like a slow news day. Someone decided to put 2 and 2 together and came up with 22, with a little imagination and massaging of what little facts they had.

The full story is out tonight regarding the death. Protestors did delay emergency services. Moreover "It was at least the second time in recent years that a protest in Berkeley caused a departure in emergency response in a case that ended with someone’s death."

Difficult to fault/place blame on EMS/FD response if they're were following standard/documented protocols which entailed them waiting for a police escort.

It happens all the time. Fire department/ambulances are dispatched to any variety of calls...for instance a shooting and are told to "stage" until the scene is deemed safe by law-enforcement personnel. Medical care isn't provided in a timely fashion because of this.

I have little if any of the facts, but in the end, it's tragic no matter how you look at it.
