Russian "Middle Name"

Hi! Another question here! I'm russian and we don't have middle names in the traditional sense.. we derive them from our father's name. However, in all my documents going forward (I am a Canadian citizen) I dropped the name.. my birth certificate which I am translating now, however, has the middle name included.

Will this be an issue when I file all the forms without a middle name? My Canadian passport and all other documents do not have this. I don't go by that name at all.

Wow so many questions.. ONE MORE !!! My husband has his name (first, middle and hyphenated last name consisting of his mom's maiden name and then his last name) only on his birth certificate, IRS info. On his passport, it is missing her maiden name.. his passport is the name he actually goes by...

Should I provide an explanation that they dropped her maiden name (there was no legal process to this though.. they applied for his passport when he was a kid without it and the US government was fine with this).

or just provide it as his alternate name as well?

SO confused and REALLY do not want a RFE for something so silly!!!

I would list both as other names used and provide the explanations.

Thanks so much! Are the explanations valid if all I'm saying is that he has gone by both names, it's not a legal change of name?

and for me, I think it is a better explanation.. It is a cultural thing so that won't be too tough to explain I hope.

i recently got my Green Card. My middle name is on my birth certificate, and nowhere else (ever!). I have never used it on passport, driving license, work permits, visas, school application, employment - anything!

At the interview, the Officer says my middle name has to be on my green card, and when it arrived - there it was.

Incidentally, my middle name is also my father's name, a cultural thing, too!

I also have patronymic, but during AOS skipped it as far as its useless in the USA, and while filing AOS docs I did translate my Ukrainian birth certificate with patronymic in it, had no issues what so ever. Do not see a problem if you do not mention it in docs.

But you didn't say if you will be forced to put the middle name back in as another woman stated happened to her.

I guess that's because you haven't gone through the interview stage yet . . . right ?

December 4, 2018  USCIS Account shows: We approved your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, 

December 4, 2018, ordered your new card for Receipt # EAC17297003XX, and will mail to the address you gave.

491 days from NOA issued by VSC until Petition approved.

December 7, 2018 USCIS sent notice:  Card mailed.

December 12, 2018 Ten year Green Card received from Lees Summit, MO

499 days from NOA issued by VSC until Green Card received.

December 6, 2018 submitted N-400 application on-line.  Estimated Completion Time: 8 months or August 2019.

December 8, 2018 received notice on USCIS that Biometrics scheduled . . . but the actual date was not yet shown.

December 11, 2018 saw in 'Documents' section of USCIS that Bio scheduled for 24 December 2018.

December 21, 2018 saw on USCIS website that they will be closed 24 December 2018 as extra holiday.

January 9, 2019 went for re-scheduled BIO appointment.  33 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

February 19, 2019 received letter in US mail that Citizenship interview scheduled for 26 March 2019. 74 days after submission on-line.

March 26, 2019 Citizenship interview scheduled for.  109 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

March 26, 2019 Passed Citizenship interview.

April 12, 2019  Received notice that Oath Ceremony had been scheduled for 24 April 2019.  17 days after interview.

April 24, 2019  Oath Ceremony completed.  29 days after interview.     139 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

April 25, 2019  USA Passport Application submitted.

May 3, 2019     USA Passport received.    149 days after N-400 submitted on-line.

May 9, 2019     Certificate of Naturalization and Citizenship returned in mail.

I guess that's because you haven't gone through the interview stage yet . . . right ?

I did not went on interview, but not on K-1 nor now I was never forced to put patronymic at all stages I was told all that matters is Name and Last name to match. My friends who got approved AOS recently from Ukraine also did not stated patronymic at any stage and got GC just fine. I just expressed my experience and experience of friends, you do whatever is comfortable for you.

K-1 timeline:

11-07-2013 - I-129F form sent ---> 11-15-2013 - NOA1 - e-mail received, transferred to California Service Center.
