NOA2 still needed after interview?

Hey guys! Just wanted to share an update on our NOA2, we actually got it today in the mail (with a notice date of 12/23/14). It was ridiculously fast, it went through TSC and we had a turn around period of just over 30 days! We were very surprised to get it so soon, we were expecting it to show up around February or March.

We're looking into what to do next (waiting for the NVC, MNL#, and to schedule the interview while she's getting the documents required on her end.) however, we noticed that the noa2 will only be valid for four months. From what I've read, it's typically a year. Will we still need a valid NOA2 after the interview? (e.g. for CFO seminar or when entering the US).

From what I understand, assuming you are approved at the interview, you will receive the K1 visa with an interview approval, which is valid for 6 months, meaning the NOA2 is no longer needed. The NOA2 is only needed until you interview, meaning you need to get the interview done within the validity period of the NOA2.

never mind the expiration written in noa2,the usem will automatic extend it..but you have to secure the noa2 in a safe place, because you will going to need it during AOS stage. Edited by hardrockangel

Wrong, wrong, wrong. You need to hang onto the NOA2 as you will need it for AOS. As for the validity period on the NOA2, the embassy will automatically extend that for UP TO a year... so that is... you got it wrong. Lastly, the visa is good for UP TO 6 months, but the 6 month clock starts ticking with the date of the medical.

Ah OK, I was actually specifically only referring to not needing the NOA2 for the remaining K1 visa process, including entering the US. Someone earlier in this thread had already posted that the NOA2 is needed for the AoS, so my comment was specifically only for scheduling the K1 visa interview. I had no idea though you need the NOA2 for the AoS. I wish the actual NOA2 would clearly state such to provide that critical information on the notice itself. Neither did my lawyer ever mention that, but researching it online it does indeed say NOA2 is needed for AoS. Lawyers and the USCIS don't provide that information. You learn it from forums like this. Go figure...

The "boots on the ground" are the individuals that are in the forums to help as they have gone before you and have a wealth of information. Lawyers are in the Penthouses not in the trenches. Many don't follow what is actually happening till one of their clients reports back that the information they told them is no longer viable and now they are delayed.

Moral of the story is you can do this without a lawyer. This is where you get current information.

The NOA2 is listed in the instructions for the I-485 for AOS, of course its official name is not NOA2. ;)

It would make great sense if the USCIS actually printed on the NOA2 that the document is needed for the AoS process.

The 797 notice of action is used for a variety of visas, the K-1 is just one of them (many don't complete AOS). You are aware it will be needed... 'nuff said.
