Hi everyone

My husband entered the US on a K1 visa and our interview is scheduled for the end of this month. We are living with my parents right now to save money and because of that we have not lease, utility bills, or rental insurance in both our names.

My question to all the VJers out there is I want to write a letter and have my parents sign in stating that we live in their house and thats why we dont have the appropriate documents....but somehow I am at a loss on how to ACTUALLY write the letter. Please any advice on how to format the letter so that it sound professional would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I don't think thats critical - my house is paid for so we didn't have any mortgage papers and none was asked for. We did give them a water bill with both our names but he didn't pay any attention to the document - he just took it - You can still have 1) Joint Bank statements; 2) Health Insurance cards or policies (showing the same address) 3) Doctors statements or clinic reports with his name and same address as yours and other documents like that showing that you are living together (at the same address) and are listed on health and (life) insurance(I didn't have life insurance with her name either.) Don't worry too much if you only have some of these; as each of them establish a tie to you in relationship and cohabitation. And if you still want to do the letter - Don't worry about being bureaucratic and official - just write it in your words - I believe that carries more proof then legal mumbo jumbo like henceforth, unbeknowns etc. Good Luck

Sounds good to me. I'm in exactly the same situation - my interview is in 2 weeks, we live with my wifes parents too. We had them sign a letter which said pretty much the same thing as that. Its a good idea to get it notorized, too. Also, you could get statements from friends saying they know you, I've heard this is something useful to have. It basically needs to say how the friend knows both of you, how long they've known you, etc.

We have hardly any 'official' evidence - all we have is a copy of our joint tax return, joint bank account statements, and joint car insurance. Other than that and the letters from friends, I've pulled together some Capital One junk mail which is addressed to my wife and I seperatly but has the same address on it, some birthday cards (and the envolopes) I have received from my wifes family, and visa versa... photos of our wedding and us on vacation together....things of that nature. I think you'll be fine.

I hope it works well for you. :)

By the by, if you make any contributions regularly on bills to your parents -- like with cheques or something -- getting evidence of that may not be a bad idea either. :)
