I was looking over the Immigrant Visa Process on the U.S Visa website to see what I should expect next to start getting stuff prepared, and I saw that it says my husband must submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of your valid passport. This is the first time I heard or saw anything about him needing a passport. Not sure if it matters but, he lives in Mexico and has never had a passport. Does he need to apply for a passport now so that it doesn't slow down our case process when our case does get sent to the NVC? I guess I'm just confused because I haven't seen this on any of the other instructions, etc. that I have been using as reference.

All immigrants have to have passport to enter the US. He has to have a passport that's where the Visa will be put. So yes get it all done now. You will need at NVC.

Yes, he will need a passport. You'll need to send a copy of the biographic page of his passport when you get to NVC. My husband still needs to get his passport too.

Thanks for answering my question and letting me know what you are doing. Since I am doing this on my own, without a lawyer, I want to make sure I do everything right the first time so it doesn't slow down the process of getting him in the US with me.

Your husband will need the passport because that's where his Visa will be stamped once he is approved. I've never seen a passport issued by Mexico, but if it's similar to passports issued by most countries, it will have important details that the USCIS\State Dept relies upon to assist in decision making.

Biographic page(s) in a valid passport usually identifies the holder's nationality, complete name, date and place of birth, issue and expiration dates, and occasionally parents\spouses name, etc. A passport also serves as conclusive proof of a person's citizenship if a birth certificate is unavailable.

In addition, it never hurts if your husband can also attach a copy of his driver's license if he has one.

And down the road, once he gets his US green card, he will need his Mexican passport to travel to any country that requires a visa.

My husband and I are also waiting on our NOA2. A little over four weeks and counting. We hoping to have an answer by Valentine's Day. :)

While waiting for NOA2, I'm already preparing for the next stage and gathering police transcript from every country I've lived more than six months, putting together the list of addresses I've lived since I was 18 and getting my birth certificate, as this is not something we use in Sweden and it'll take a bit of fixing. Basically, you should already now start preparing and getting the things that might take awhile to gather. Don't wait till you have your NOA2, that's only prolong the process.

Hoping we all get our NOA2 soon! :)

Yes, hopefully we get them soon. You should get yours right before I get mine. Since your date was Sept.16th and mine was Sept. 26th. If you can, will you let me know when you get yours so I know I will receive mine soon. Thanks

Although yours is from Sweden and mine is for Mexico. That might be a big difference but Im not sure

Shouldn't matter that mine is from Sweden and yours is from Mexico. My husband and I do have special circumstances that might delay our decision, depending on how harsh they wanna be. :(

Hope we both hear something soon. This wait is killing me... :(
