I will agree that for the most part a divorce is generally messier. However a simple divorce is not that hard to obtain, in that situation a person could sign a couple of forms and walk away just as easy as they could with a fiancé.

Well I would think that any marriage for any period of time unless falling apart immediately (Brittney Spears) would entail division of assets and possibly custody of children. That's why I consider it messier, even if as simple as signing a few pieces of paper.

I wonder what percentage of CR1 spouses end up divorced because of fraudulent entry?

You're still divorced. And if the person is in the USA, you're now on the hook for the I-864 until they either work 40 work quarters, become a USC, leave the USA, or die.

That then begs the question: How many divorced sponsors do you think DHS and it's sub-departments actually take the time to track down?

I personally think our southern border problem has a much bigger affect on the national well being vs derelict sponsors. Just my opinion though.

NLR makes a lot of sense. After K-1 you have AOS..,,so it just about evens out, BUT.,.with K-1 you are together, an as you go through the AOS process, you can see"if it is the real deal" and not make a mistake.

Always, K-1 over CR-1 if possible, but sometimes, due to circumstances, the CR-1 is the only way.

I do not agree with one poster, saying that CR-1 will come back to being quicker than K-1, no way, in my opinion, because of so much fraud that exists in CR-1.

There was a time when a CR1 could take 4-6 months. Total. Heck mine was 8 months, 9 exactly from filing date to hard copy green card in hand. I wouldn't have chosen any other route either because of the travel and work limitations. K1 is generally quicker but not necessarily the superior visa. There is plenty of fraud to be had, if the forums are any indication. All in all, really get to know your significant other.

I haven't a clue how many non-citizens are using means tested benefits they don't qualify for and what the US government actually does to recoup their losses. I also have zero comment on the southern border issues.
