I would like to make this thread a source for interesting NPR stories on the Middle East and North Africa. There are usually tons of news stories, especially re: Iraq, but there are also interesting little tidbits that aren't quite so news-y, and are more information-y. I'd like to collect the information-y stories here.

Heard this on my NPR podcast today. I definately need to pick up this book

Perspective on U.S. Middle East Policy

All Things Considered, January 29, 2007 · Robert Siegel talks with Michael B. Oren, author of Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East: 1776 to the Present. The book is about the history of America's political, military, and intellectual involvement in the Middle East.

Partisans of Ali - an NPR series on the shia. It would probably do our government officials some good if they listened to this

Well, prior to getting my ipod, I just listened to the actual radio broadcast for hours every day.

I subscribe to these podcasts. I'll usually upload 4 days worth of material and listen to it over a 4 day period, so I'm a little behind on the news. But ah well

I also have some from the BBC. There are a ton more, but I was at the point where I was downloading more content then I had time to listen to :( But now, with taking the bus to work, walking at lunch and working out, I have enough time to listen to these.

I ordered this book after the author was on The Daily Show. I haven't started it yet but I can't wait!
