I can't add a poll answer to this one. you know what it would be.

Maybe?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Stupid ones, yes.

I had an interesting conversation this weekend. Was talking to someone about an Australian type gun ban (where everything is pretty much outlawed but bolt action rifles for hunting). The argument was that the 2nd amendment should be heavily limited because it places a burden on local communities. A small percentage of people owning firearms cause harm etc.

My response was that we should also then curtail 1st amendment rights to protest because protests can lead to property loss and loss of one's livelyhood.

There was a pause in in the conversation, and then finally they said that monetary loss / lost jobs doesn't equate to loss lives.

My response was 'Well fair enough - you know people get killed during or because of protests right? Either directly like in past situations at Frank Ogawa Plaza, or indirectly because either emergency services are rerouted or blocked.

Personally I am pro rights for all.

We have thirty some odd thousand bodies from gun related incidents each and every year. If we just take the homicides, we're still well over ten thousand a year.

Say, how many bodies does the first amendment produce a year?

Does anyone keep such statics? It only requires one life right? I keep hearing "Blah Blah law is worth it if it saves one life".

But we're not talking about one. We're talking about tens of thousands. In fact, over just the past 4 decades or so, we're actually talking about more lives than all US wars in all US history have claimed in American lives. Combined. That's what we're talking about. First Amendment casualties. Pfft.

I'm not going to start with you.... I've learned you aren't worth it.

Your argument falls short. Nothing wrong with admitting it. No need for personal attacks, really. But that's all there is, isn't it?

Every time I apply logic to a discussion and provide a different angle on a subject all you do is bash me. why would I start here? I could get into many areas of how the 1st amendment costs lives, especially since the issue of corporate personhood, but its not worth it because you have no respect for others opinions.

I mean seriously 'corporate free speech' in this country costs 10,000 of lives alone.

I didn't bash anyone. Merely pointed out that your argument makes no sense. Demonstrate how many casualties you believe the first amendment causes. I will tell you right now that it's nowhere near the number of deaths caused by the flood of guns in this country. Not close, not in the same ballpark. You know that, of course, which is why you feel the need to resort to attacks on me.

If you say so.

In one post you state my argument makes no sense. In another you claim you thought I had a case but were mistaken. Which is it?
