It serves us right, for insisting on relying on oil for our energy needs. The drop in oil prices debunks the 'drill baby, drill' cry the motley crew has been promoting for years. You can drill the Dakotas silly and yet OPEC can put the out of business if they wish. We need to wean ourselves from oil and seek energy independence from renewable sources...

You don't really expect me to talk about personal finances in this forum do you? Don't worry, I'm doing fine.

Fair enough, and I don't pretend to know anything about the market nor where it will head, except what I see, and what I see seems to be a slow trend upwards. And if you were wrong about the late 2014/early 2015 decline, I won't hold it against you, I just said I don't see it happening. I hope you are wrong, for all of our sakes. If things DO get worse than 2008 was (as you postulated it will), I think it will set the middle class back so far it may be hard for most to recover in this lifetime. Land values tanked in 2008, and still have not recovered. It will take a while yet before they do, IFF there is not a setback in the near future.

OTWT (Only Time Will Tell), I always say. One can hope for the best, but should prepare for the worst.

ETA: And to be fair, you predicted gas would go way below $3 per gallon as things got worse. If your other predictions are correct, commodities and precious metals will tank next (if I understood you correctly).

Well, my thinking dating back to 2010-11 was oil and other commodities such as precious metals would decline, which we have seen happen. However those declines in gold, silver, oil, etc have been so violent that I personally closed my short positions on those already. That's not to say they might not decline a little more but I think the larger picture right now is that of a short term bounce. Eventually they will resume their decline(probably at the point where stocks will finally join in). I'll be sure to say when I think that is.
