i now have my green card which expires in 2 years from now i got it the first week of january 2007, when can i apply for citizenship?

Re: your residency:

If your interview (and specifically the approval) occurs within 2 years of your marriage you will be granted a conditional permanent residency (2 year validity). If this happens you will have to apply to lift conditions 90 days prior to your 2 year green card expiring. If you are 'adjusted' greater than 2 years after you were married you should receive a normal 10 year green card.

Yes, as Jen mentions above, you'll have to get conditions removed first, and then a year later (still married *fingers crossed*), you can apply for citizenship. I can't wait either! Hubby and I are both very into politics, and I want to actually vote in this country

yes, you have to be a resident for 3 years....

and you do not necessarily have to have the conditions removed before you can apply for citizenship.. for some people it can take longer then a year to get the conditions removed but you can apply for citizenship as soon as you have been a resident for at least 3 years....

Yes, assuming you remain married to the same US Citizen the entire three years, and you stay married and living together in valid marital union until you take the citizenship oath.

At any time before receiving citizenship, if the marriage ends due to death or divorce, or if you stop living together, then the 3 year requirement goes to 5 years.

There are a number of other requirements that must be met, detailed in the guide to naturalization available on the USCIS site.

Point of clarification: That's not what Jen mentioned and the subtle difference is significant. He has to apply to remove the condition at the appropriate time, but the condition does not have to have been removed before one can apply for citizenship.

Many people have not yet had the condition removed when they apply for citizenship.
