EAD is VERY important. Nowadays, with people stuck on the FBI namechecks, they can at least start earning money to support their spouses. It makes the green card wait a bit easier to handle. At this point, I'm not even thinking about my interview yet. I'm more worried about getting my EAD renewed so I can keep working when my current one expires on Feb 15th. It is like an insurance against unpredictable situations with USCIS.

in my opinion EAD is just another money maker. my husband is on his third right now. first of all since he came leagally he should be able to work leagally without have to pay more money. when they gave him the permission to come live in the united stated that should have gave him the permission to work also. there should be no such thing as EAD as long as u were granted a visa to live here first of all and as long as u have applied to AOS u should still be able to work with out applying for this stupid little card.

If you'd have needed it you'd sing a different tune.

Consider the various scenarios; you had one thing happen; others are caught in limbo going on for months.

Try to be objective. It is frustrating; we did pay all that money not needed. IMHO: it is insurance; look at it that way.

Cheers!

It really depends! You never know how fast your case will be approved. My EAD was definitely a waste of money - I never even got it. But I'm glad I applied - had I got stuck in the name check, it would have been handy to have an EAD.

I really think it doesn't hurt to apply for it.

It seems like it has been a waste of money for a lot of people, but I would have rathered wasting the money than sitting here on my second EAD still waiting for my GC and I'm not in any Name Check!

I am waiting for the person who doesn't file for EAD, gets held up for some reason and posts crying about it. I'll be the first person on here looking for the "sucks to be you" smilie! :P:lol:

10/23/06: Interview finally scheduled for 12/14/06.

Hi Debss77,

Good luck on your immigration journey! I agree about NYS requirements about the SS#. It takes forever! You're lucky it only took you four weeks, as for me it took a lot longer than that (due to a technical error). So for me, waiting for the GC and dealing with the USCIS was a lot easier than with SS (that's another story). By the way, did you do that "overstaying" and the "AOS" thing too? If you did, how was your experience with it (since you have no timeline or other info listed)?

Ant

I think it depends where you lived and what your status is. We live in NY. My husband and I got married then applied for the documents. In NY you can't obtain a DL License without an EAD or a SS#. He just got approved for his EAD in the begining of the month and we went straight to the SS Office and received notice it would take four weeks. I could not put him on any joint bills or accounts unless he had a valid DL or a SS#. I guess USCIS is going to try and force that you do the fiancee visa before getting any legal docs and get rid of overstayed tourist visa immigrants that fall in love and get married in the US...

What makes you come to this conclusion? Seriously, I'd like to know how a person decides to take the gamble.

Maybe by defining 'greencard taking too long'?
