How long does it take on a k-1 before you can return to your own country?

You can return at any time to your own country..... if you want to return again to the USA then you would need to have file for AOS and AP and had the AP approved and in hand then you can re-enter the USA....

How long does it normally take for AP to get approved? We submit that when we file for the AOS right?

Some people are getting them approved in as little as 10 weeks others have to wait 3 months or more...

We were told 90 days was a good outside/average guess. We were/are concerned because my fiance is the best man in his friends' wedding in England in March of 2008 and we neither want to delay our being together nor screw over his friends and their wedding plans. We'll just see how it goes.

(This is another reason I think lots of K1 couples slip to city hall and just get it legalized quietly before planning the "real" wedding - so they can start getting that paperwork going as soon as possible to restore all the freedom of travel humans generally enjoy)

I think full citizenship can take a year or two, but from what I understand (and I haven't started learning about that part of the process yet, one step at a time) when you put in your papers for the AOS after he is here, you can apply for what is known as advance parole, which is basically a letter that says "hi, let this guy into the country even though he wouldn't otherwise have the ability to do so. We're working on his paperwork."

There are examples in the gallery section, I think. That can be processed long before you swear an oath to a new country. Of course, it could take longer and I could be completely wrong.

The earliest you can file for Citizenship is 90 days before the 3rd anniversary of the date you were approved for your Greencard....

AP is given to allow you to travel outside the USA and return while they process your AOS.... once you have been approved for Greencard you do not need AP or a EAD as your Greencard is all you need for work and travel...
