Hello June people

Congrats to those who are now in the US and prayers for those still in the waiting process.

I have 2 questions regarding AOS (and a big thanks to the person who made the list!!)

My first question is: at POE, the border agent kept the whole package to send it I dont know where. My POE was land crossing from Canada and even if it was a big border they were not really good at handling all this K1 thing. They had to use the binder to follow the steps. I have kind of felt worry about it. I don't know but I was under the impression I had to keep it for the following steps. Can someone confirm me it's normal and my package is not forever lost somewhere in the us??

My second question is: For the AOS, can I file under my husband last name? I went to get my SSN last week but had to do it under my maiden name because our marriage certificate wasn't back yet but the guy at the SSN office told me it was easy to change it after. But for AOS if on my marriage certificate it's written that I'm taking my husband name can I do it? My other question is what will happen for my passport after? My name on it is obviously my maiden name but my passport is still valid for 8 years. Will I need to change my passport or will I have problem traveling with a green card and a passport with different informations?

Thank you all

Remembering that you're asking a bunch of people who haven't gotten to where you are yet - you will most likely get better answers from threads where the fiancée is already in the U.S. and they're going through the same steps you are...but I will attempt to answer from what I've read (not what I know, as my fiancée still hasn't had his interview):

The sealed packet that you gave to the Immigration person at the border is supposed to be kept by them, not you. That is the information that they have to use to put into their system once you've entered the U.S. and you do not get it back (I know this for a fact from my time working in immigration law).

The reason why this website recommends that you shouldn't try to get your U.S. IDs for about 2-3 weeks is because that packet won't have been entered into the computers for a few weeks, so they won't be able to find you to start your AOS. That's what I've read.

Regarding your passport, I'm not sure what your country will have you do. Your passport is issued by Canada, so you will have to contact the Canadian Embassy to determine how that works. But when you go on international travel, you travel on a ticket issued to the name on your passport. So it won't affect your travel at all as long as that passport is valid. If you intend to apply for U.S. citizenship, your passport is valid long enough to get through the entire waiting period and then some to be able to travel with no issues until you're issued a U.S. passport after naturalization. But I'd check with a lawyer about any issues with passport showing a different ID than your other information. As long as your green card and your driver's license, SSN, etc. all are the same name, I don't see why you would have a problem. I'm sure this happens pretty much every day.

Hey guys

How long does it take for the embassy to put ready on the case.

Its been in transit for 10 days already

Each embassy is different, honestly. Some take about a week, others longer. As you are probably used to this now, this is a game of hurry up and wait. I am not sure about your embassy specifically but you might be able to apply for the police certificate while you wait. Also, start putting together your interview packet such as stuff on continuing proof of relationship since you submitted you initial K1 application

I think Ankara is one of the most difficult and the slowest embassy. sometimes no news is the best news. no news is better than bad news.

Be prepared for the high AP % rate also.

fingers crossed for you guys.

Pakistan's is ridiculously slow as well. We had to contact the embassy after two weeks, as did the couple ahead of us, and they had sent the emails to the wrong email addresses (despite the information being correct on the applications). We both are waiting almost a month before our interviews. Hang in there. This too will end.

Hey everyone, I don't want to annoy the people who are not at the AOS stage yet so I was wondering if there has been an AOS threat created yet for all us June people, like this one? If not, please let me know and I'll create one for all of us because the questions are piling up. Thank you.

Admins, if such a thread is in existence and is currently live, I would be grateful if you could please point me in the right direction.

many thanks!
