Does the letter from the parent that gives permission to allow the child on the K2 visa travel to the U.S. Need to be notarized or completed by an attorney? My fiance is stating that he was told that we needed to have it notarized and provide the travel information in order for the other parent to sign but we won't have travel info until after the interview, aproval, and visa issuance. I think he's being given misinformation. Can anyone verify?

in costa rica you go to the same place where they issue the passports and both parents must be present and sign a special stamp that gets placed in the minors passport. you can do this during/ before/ after the k1 visa since this is an issue that relates to the bureau of travel of that given country and not the us embassy.

instead of notirizing/attorney, could both parents go together to do the same thing and skip the lawyer? make sure he asks with the bureau of travel and passport issuance in DR about his options.

i am very frsutrated as well. i have not gotten any response from NVC. i sent them 3 emails about my case. my case was approved Dec 2. they have me in a limbo. i go back and fourth with NVC and USCIS. i went to a info pass appointment. the immigration offficer was useless. she said she had to stay neutral with me and theres nothing she can do about it since the system says they sent it dec 5th. my congress has been no help. i hired a lawyer to help asisit but im not sure if she will be able to help in any way.

An suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Papers are in transit!!!

My fiance was already able to get passports done for him and his son without issue and without the mom being there. And, unfortunately, the mom is not very active in her son's life. Her contact with her son is sporadic and they are having a bit of difficulty getting her even to respond back to them in a timely manner. I did read some other blogs last night and saw that other's advised that yes, the consent from the parent should be notarized and even have a copy of the consenting parent's cedula attached. All things I'm not sure will be easy to obtain at this point. The only other thing I saw it suggest was that we could provide the consulate with a document showing my fiance has sole custody of the child. He does, but never anything through the courts and I really don't have any idea how family law is handled in the D.R. and what the process is to receive such a document. I've looked on the embassy sites and info regarding this is scarce.

Yeah, the system can be quirky. The same thing happened to the NVC # before mine. We were both "At NVC", then we went to "In Transit" and then somehow s/he jumped to "Ready" the next day (while I stayed "In Transit" for about another week.) I guess you'll know pretty soon since the embassy should be contacting you now.

I think they go ahead and send the electronic copy to the embassy first and then send the paper copy. They could defo receive an electronic copy in a few hours. Hope you'll get the packet three soon too :)

This is so sad :( I was really praying for you that the info pass would get you some information about what is happening. If I were in your situation I would look into just getting married and trying CR1. I know it would mean starting over but maybe you would have better luck with that? Is there any way the USC can stay in Turkey for a while until this gets all sorted out? So at least you can both be together?

Dont worry because they still have to schedule your interview and have to send you Packet 3 or 4. So it does take time. Definitely try to track your documents and make sure they will arrive soon though. My case said READY and my embassy contacted me a week later so it isn't immediate.

Call after 10 pm EST, it highly increases your chances of getting thru to them

I agree with this - when I called to find out my case number, I always did it around 10:30EST (and even got through on the first call!)
