hey guys

quick question did any of you have to comply with the ridiculously obscene and unrealistic vaccination requirements?

My fiancee did some research i am looking at about $400, double that with her daughter.

not only that some of the vaccines need to be administered over a period of 6 months, and another isn't even available in the country?

where are you guys at with this?

Josh

My fiance was given 6 vaccines at his medical, and they refused to acknowledge the Hep A update he had gotten from his doctor a week earlier. Our total fee was about $80 but keep in mind, he was charged in rupees so the exchange rate plays a role, it was 4500 rupees.

What Andies are saying is correct, K1 visa applicants are not required to have ALL vaccinations but trust me it will cost you so much more to get it done in the US.

From reading the pamphlet you posted they are saying it can cost "as much as 400" but I think that would be the case if the person has never had ANY vaccinations. To be fair though, I think they are being very stringent about vaccinating your daughter because of the measles outbreak in the US that's happening right now.

Just my 2 cents.

What I read for the Dominican Republic medical requirements, the vaccinations are an option. If that is correct, I most definitely will be waiting to have them done here while my fiance and son are on my insurance. Vaccinations are covered under your wellness plan and under Obama Care, should be covered for free as part of anyone's annual wellness exam.

What's the name of the app? Just looked online and all of the February appointments at my consulate are taken. First one available is 3/19/15. Not a happy camper today!! Holding back tears. More waiting. Was hoping to see everyone by the end of this month for my birthday.

Just put Auto Redial and I chose the first one. Make sure you remove the option to auto hang up. That happened to me the first time and after finally getting through the call dropped after being on hold for 15 min.

Guys thank you for all your replies.

Maria has most of the vaccines but missing the following:

chicken pox: completly out of stock in costa rica ( not common)

influenza: $20

rotarix: $122

Hep A: (2) doses over 6 months $104

Pneumo23: $24

Meningococo: $130

Total: $400

i wrote the embassy a "passionate" email. what is my fiancee supposed to do travel outside the country to get a vaccine... just absolute nonsense.

here it says it is "recommended"

visa applicants are encouraged to get the vaccinations required under U.S. immigration law for immigrant visa applicants. Although such vaccinations are not required for K visa issuance, they will be required when adjusting status to that of legal permanent resident following your marriage. Applicants are therefore encouraged to fulfill these vaccination requirements at the time of the medical examination. See Vaccination Requirements for IV Applicants for the list of required vaccinations and additional information.

then if you follow the link here is when it says "it is required before the immigrant visa is issued"

Important Notice to Immigrant Visa Applicants Concerning Vaccination Requirements

United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Influenza
  • Influenza type b (Hib)
  • Measles
  • Meningococcal
  • Mumps
  • Pneumococcal
  • Pertussis
  • Polio
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Varicella

as you guys can see this is absolutely conflicting information ...

If she had a chicken pox as a child she most likely won't need it. Also I emailed the doctor to check what vaccination I will need cos I thought it may be cheaper to get them somewhere else. I scanned him a copy of my vaccination record and he listed the ones I will need for my age group. She doesn't need them all I guess cos some of them are only for people over 50 and I presume she is younger than that. Just ask her to contact the panel physician in order to obtain the correct information.

I'm just speaking from personal experience, having recently been through this with my fiance. But first, you should really look at the age requirements for the vaccinations.

If you're between the ages of 19 and 59, the required shots for immigration (AOS) are Td or Tdap (or DT, DTP or DtaP) which covers Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis, MMR (mumps/measles/rubella), Varicella and Influenza. In London, if you've had chicken pox and tell that to the doctor, as a lot of people had it as kids, you are excused from the Varicella shot.

I would suggest checking your regional thread to see what the medical experience has been like for others going through that embassy. They might have some good advice to offer...

I think this might be what you're looking for? (There might be others but this is what I found):

AOS:

AP:

Definitely a great question! I'm hoping those timelines help a bit (maybe play around with the dates for when the paperwork was "filed') :)

Full of questions today...

Is the $265 visa fee for the spouse only? I'm bringing his son as well and the fee chart doesn't specify. I'm assuming it's $265 per person.
