I want to file for the Fiance visa I-129 and I've researched for a long time on how to do it exactly. Is it really neccessary for me to hire an attorney. I've been told different things from different lawyers so now I'm almost intent to do it myself. I have all the information. Has anyone else done this? What problems, if any, did you have? Thanks.

blspicer,

If you've talked with several attornies you should now have the information you need to decide whether or not you can do it yourself.

But maybe not - I-129 is a petition for an immigrant worker ......

I love you Yodrak

I was able to follow the instructions and advice from VJ to file on my own with no difficulty. Our case was straightforward. If you feel as though you can confidently follow the instructoins for each of the forms and have no 'legal issues' that might cause you a problem with your application, you will likely be very successful going it on your own.

It's a judgement call that only you can make, however.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I agree, I think you can do it yourself! I did mine without any legal consultation, just help from VJ members & guides.

From what I've read, the people that used attorneys, had longer wait times, as the attorney's did their applications poorly, and missed sending stuff, or didnt' respond to RFE's.

I think if you can get everything organized yourself, and you meet all the requirements the I-129F has, you'll do fine. Good luck :)

The lawyer i went to see gave me a lot of inaccurate info so i decided to do it on my own. i knew MORE than him! visa journey is a great resource and saves u money!!!

but if you have a complicated case, it can be a good idea to retain the services of an attorney. every case is different.

I used a lawyer, but if I'd found VJ before that, I would have done it myself and saved the money. Having a lawyer gave a sense of peace of mind, but didn't really affect the processing speed, and we did get an RFE anyway.

Ditto, right down to getting an RFE! Wouldn't recommend wasting the money unless you have a complicated case, or if you are highly disorganized and cannot follow instructions.

Unless you have a complex situation I would recommend you read the guide and review the example forms and do it yourself, you will save yourself a considerable amount of money. Good luck

If you want it done right do it yourself. The guide on this site are fantastic and if you get stuck on anything the members here can help you out. Even if you hired a lawyer you will still have to do all the leg work in supplying the information. If you have to do that you can put it together yourself.

Good luck.

Another benefit of this site is you find out about changes to any forms etc very quickly. I could see how this might get overlooked by SOME lawyers (not all...) If you do go with one, make sure to stay on top of everything anyways!

We hired a lawyer and then found this site afterwards. If you case is straight forward save the money and do it yourself. It didn't change our processing time either way...due to the IMBRA fiasco we were delayed anyway..and got and RFE due to that as well. So really if you can follow the guides go for it.

I used a visa attorney because I didn't want to deal with knowing all the ins and outs of the system. I figured my time was better spent somewhere else. My application wasn't complicated, no RFE's everything went fine.

It's a judgment call on your part, but it is definitely something you can do by yourself using VJ.
