Proof of Relationship for Canadian Consulate Interview

Hi there,

I know this must have been posted somewhere, but I cannot find it! Could someone point me to what documentation I should bring to the Canadian consulate interview in terms of proof of relationship? This is for a spousal visa, not a K-1. I heard pictures, ticket stubs, phone bills, etc, but I could use an exact list of what people tend to bring or be asked about.

Many thanks!

There's no official list as each relationship is different, but what you listed plus photos dating from when you were dating up until today are good. Maybe photos from the wedding and/or an old wedding invitation. Just whatever makes sense to you. The only reason for them to become suspicious is if you don't know obvious facts like how many siblings your spouse has, their parents' names, etc. It's not as hard as it seems. The bona fide marriage proof was mostly needed for the I-130 petition, so I'd say bring originals of whatever you submitted to USCIS for the petition to the interview and you'll be good.

Thank you SO much. I feel the way your nickname is right now:) We didn't send anything in for the I-130, as our lawyer said it wasn't needed, so we really didn't give any proof of relationship, that's why I was not clear as to when it was required. I have seen folks bring their albums with them to the consulate, so I wanted to make sure that I am well prepared. It's actually kind of fun putting together to proof of relationship stuff;) Makes me relive all the wonderful moments!!

Best

lol yeah my husband and I went all Campfire Girls style the week before our interview and whipped out all the colored paper and crafted this super cute photo album we brought with us. We brought in total about 30 pages of documents and when we were done we sat in the car and were so hyper that we were approved, but then kinda frowned and said "he didn't wanna look at our cute photo book" :( lol.

You got lucky with the I-130 it seems. I didn't think it was necessary either since we were already well past the IR-1 threshold (being married 2 years) and were living together overseas, so I was thinking what proof do they really need? But, nonetheless, I got an RFE asking for evidence of our marriage. I was a bit ticked, but after I submitted it we got our NOA2 pretty quickly.

You guys got approved really quickly, so I am really glad for you!!!! Perhaps our not sending POR stuff was a problem, but we never received an RFE for proof of relationship, we did get one for a document that was missing. It's been a long 8 months, so now that our case is being forwarded to the NVC, I want to be really well prepared to get through this quickly. Fingers crossed!! Also congrats on finally being done!

After reading a few dozen of these you should have a pretty good idea of what they will ask you for at the interview, I know I did!

Thank you! It's so nice to know we are not alone in this. And that people actually DO get approved, even if it feels like forever.

Best
