Hi, everybody. My spouse is a DV winner and we live in the UK at the moment. At the time of the interview my spouse will be living in the country of spouse's origin due to family circumstances. Can we attend an appointment in the spouse's country of origin? We did not submitted the DS260 yet as I understand we still have time as our number is 30*** - so it will be in April-May. Is it possible to choose a country of the interview? And another question about the application process. Will we require to leave our passports at the US Embassy or will they make their decision on the same day? Although I am allowed to stay in my spouse's country of origin without visa for up to 90 days, I am not sure I will stay there for that long as I am working in the UK. Will the fact that I will not have a visa to my spouse's country of origin at the time of attending interview make any complications for our applications? I am allowed to be in that country for up to 90 days without visa. Thank you!

Hi,

You can specify the country of interview on the form, but you need to stop delaying and submit the DS260s as soon as possible. It has been taking KCC around four months to process forms this fiscal year (this includes background checks) ; they oniy schedule interviews once the forms have been processed and there is then roughly a two month delay to the interview. So if you submit now, if timelines remain similar then KCC will only have finished processing your forms by mid April. They also only do scheduling rounds once a month so you would make the early May schedule which would be for interviews in July.

No consulate issues visas the same day. The time varies but is usually a few days to a week, some consulates can take up to two weeks. Bear in mind that all this assumes that your interview goes smoothly and you are not placed on administrative processing. Given how late your interview would probably be now given your lack of submitting the forms yet, means that being placed on AP could be risky in terms of getting it finalised by the end of the fiscal year. (I have no idea where you or your spouse are from or prospects for AP but just a caution that things do not always run smoothly in interviews.) I urge you to stop delaying and submit your forms as soon as you can. It's possible KCC is clearing the backlog and processing won't take as long as it has been but so far you are following a risky route. The links that the selection letter goes to on dvselectee website do tell you to submit your forms as soon as possible, this is for a reason...

Susie is actually right about this. KCC is taking about 4-5 months to process DS-260, they took 5 months to process my ds-260. Kindly submit your ds-260 as soon as possible so you can be called on time. Thanks to Susie and other members on here for being such a great help to us. I'm wishing all of us success! don't forget to put God first in everything you do.

Thank you everybody for your help. I was sure we could submit the forms at any time before our number would come up on the bulletin. I probably wrongly interpreted the reply on my previous post here few months ago. We will submit the forms. Regards.

Hello Susie, how do u know kcc takes that long to process ds-260? Do they send applicants a notification of some sort once processing is finished? Is there a link where we can see the avg process time? My guess is most dv winners including those with very high cn submitted their forms in may-june (which means 80k+ forms), kcc got overwhelmed, but are fine now.

There is another forum which has been tracking applications, people post when they submitted, when they went current, and when they got interview notification. So it is quite easy to see what the actual time delay is. We have continually expected that the time to delay would shorten but so far it hasn't happened. Hopefully it will shorten, but so far there has been little sign of that.

You may also wish to remember that KCC does not only deal with DV2015. With the entry period for DV2016 having recently closed it will be busy with the draw etc for that, and it also deals with a lot of non-immigrant visas.

Btw, for those who received an interview letter, what does it say about proof of high school? To bring degree certificate or transcripts or both?

Your interview letter doesn't say anything about that. Your selection letter should have linked to the dvselectee site which has detals of the civil documents you need.
