Bangkok DCF - Request for Translations certified by someone else

I submitted my i-130 to the USCIS office in Bangkok on November 18th, 2014.

I never got any emails about it because they spelled my email address wrong. I opened up a new email account with the misspelled email so that I can get future emails from them.

December 08th I receieved a letter from them requesting new translations. Originally, I did the translations and signed them myself. They did not accept that. I have read on a lot of places that it is ok to do this. So I had to get someone else to say that they are competent in English and Thai and that they certify that it is an accurate translation.

The letter they sent me says "Additional Processing Requirements" Is this an RFE?

I sent them a back copy of the letter with new copies of the translations on December 14th with someone else's signature, So hopefully I will hear something again from them soon.

Is there some reason you don't want to use a bonafide translation service? You may make the process more difficult than necessary by cutting corners.

Anyone competent in both languages can do the translations. The " certification " required is simply a statement from that person indicating they are fluent in both. This statement is signed and dated for submission. Type translations in the search block here on V J to find more info.

There is no need to pay some agency to do the translations but that would be ok too. The fees are usually about 6 to 800 baht per page or more if they think you will pay it. People here on V J have done it both ways with success.

A P is where they wait until you submit what they asked for and its reviewed.

I am not using a translation service because I can do the translations myself and save a lot of money.

I have sent back new translations signed by my friend who speaks English and Thai. I changed the word "fluent" to "competent" since that was what the letter asked me for.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post an update about this.

So, I was able to send back the new translations in the mail to the USCIS in Bangkok. I sent back the translations with my friend's signature and he checked over the translations and made some very minor changes.

Today, I received an Approval Notice!

On the same day, my wife has received a small package of papers from the US consulate.

Can I ask what documents that you had to have translated?

You have to have all documents that are not in English translated. Actually, you can do what I did: Translate them yourself, and have your friend sign if for you. The Uscis doesn't verify the translations, they just want to know that you have the required documents. When you submit the official documents to the embassy Bangkok, you can send them in Thai with no translations.

Anyone can do the translation. You didn't need a friend to sign it.

The important part is the USCIS certified translation block should be used. That is the certification that is required.

Yes that's toth anyone can do it as long as you have them use that translation block or something similar to it. I created my own version if it, which was accepted. You can have anyone sign it, I suggested a friend because they won't make you pay money to have them sign it. If they do, your friend is not your friend.

The person doing the translation signs it. Why complicate things by having someone who didn't do the translation sign the certification that he/she did the translation. Your suggestion complicates things for no good reason.
