My best deal for now is $625.10 tax included with Continental. That's CRP>IAH>LGW though. I live 4 hrs away from the closest major airport in Houston. 7 if I want Dallas.

Fingers crossed I can leave at the end of this month :D

ohh I like this thread. I will be booking flights from LAX to LHR pretty soon and I will let you know if I find anything good :) Or you could let me know!

It seems like flights cost so much more cos of the crappy dollar :( I didn't mind paying 350 pounds for a flight (my god this keyboard doesn't even have a pound sign) but $700 plus seems like far too much!

££££££££££££££ I've missed them! I still caryy £2 in my purse to remind me of what good quality english money is :P

I saw my first 50 cent coin today, I have to say that was quite exiting!

Back to topic - I'm never sure if it's worth picking an airline and getting the frequent flyer miles going, or to just go for the cheapest (and usually most inconvenient). I'm guessing I will be flying to England and back to CA twice a year, what's that - like 24000 miles? You must get something good for that...

The last time I went to England it was on frequent flyer miles (my parents love me! haha) with AA and it cost 40,000 miles for a "Free" ticket after taxes and fees actually ended up being $75 (the ticket price was $550). I'm sure it's different amounts with different airlines though.

I seem to be the only one, but I always fly Aer Lingus Chicago-Manchester (or vice-versa) with a stop in Dublin. Next week I am flying to Manchester (one-way ticket) and it cost me $250 after taxes. The return flight in April is looking about $300 after taxes. I'm never disappointed in their fares. They often run specials as well.

I lied earlier unintentionally. SO actually got the flight for well under 300 pounds(I can't get the symbol to work either grrr). Apparently BA and Virgin are running the same deal...there was about 20p difference in the prices.

We typically fly Virgin. LAX to LHR. they have not let us down on price and service yet.

Aer lingus is a close second.

It depends if we are visiting Scotland or Ireland, which route we go.

I found checking the airlines website to be the best.

Wow I just found flights with Virgin Newark - Gatwick in May for $459 each including taxes!

Looks like a flight from Pittsburgh - Newark can be as low as $59 return, and we can combine it with a visit to a friend who's 10 mins from Newark airport.

I'm liking Virgin right now...

Hmmm...seeing as how one way is usually a rip-off...try to book a round trip with a return date REALLY later on. Then, you can modify it as you need with the penalty fee. Doing this with Continental...the one way was like 760+ dollars, the round trip was 360+. So if you re-schedule the round trip for a usual 200 dollar fee, it still comes out cheaper...

Just my scheming...

I just booked my flight for the end of this month. my total was $611 this time with Continental. CRP>IAH>LGW

As I mentioned before, I live about a 4 hr drive from the nearest major international airport and I'm wondering if anyone else out there in VJ land is in the same situation and what do you do? Have someone drive you? take a bus? or do like me and fly there? to me it's less hassle if I fly there but that's what drives my price up so much. Bus would be about the same, you pay the fare and then have to get a taxi to and from the airport.

Now when Jonny came here he flew from Gatwick to Houston and I drove the 4 hrs to pick him up. his flight cost him about £320 return (IIRC) would have been a little more to fly into Corpus but when you think about hotel and gas it all evens out really. We did get to visit NASA while we were there :)
