(KMOV.com) - A fourth suspect has been been taken into custody in connection with the death of Zemir Begic.

Authorities said they arrested a 16-year-old Thursday morning in connection with the incident that occurred Nov. 30. Police said four teens beat Begic with a hammer in the 4200 block of Itaska.

The suspect has been turned over to juvenile authorities.

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A third teenager has been arrested in connection with the deadly beating of a South City man with a hammer.

Zemir Begic, 32, was found unconscious with apparent injuries to his head, abdomen, face and mouth in the 4200 block of Itaska at 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Police say Begic was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

According to police, Begic was in his vehicle when “several juveniles” approached his car and began damaging it. When Begic exited his vehicle the teenagers yelled and struck him with hammers.

Following the assault, the teenagers fled the scene on foot. A 15 year-old African American male and 16-year-old Hispanic male were located a short-time later and placed in the custody of juvenile authorities. They have been charged with first degree murder under the juvenile system. A source told News 4 the charges require a hearing to be held where a judge will determine if the suspects should be tried as adults.

“This crime is extremely heinous, it’s extremely gruesome and I think it’s appropriate for them to stand trial as adults,” St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce said.

Monday morning, authorities said they have a 17-year-old in custody in connection with the murder. Police say the 17-year-old suspect surrendered himself to homicide investigators Sunday night.

On Monday afternoon, the Circuit Attorney's Office said the 17-year-old is identified as Robert Mitchell. Mitchell, who is being charged as an adult, is being charged with murder and armed criminal action. It is not yet known if the other two suspects will be charged as adults or juveniles.

Authorities say they are still searching for a fourth suspect connected to the case.

The violent death sparked a spontaneous protest in the Bosnian community with demonstrators blocking off traffic at Gravois and Itaska Sunday night. Demonstrators said the protests were in response to recent violence in the neighborhood. In early November, a robbery occurred at a Bosnian cafe. In the summer of 2013, a Bosnian store clerk was murdered.

A memorial of flowers and teddy bears is growing at the edge of the parking lot where Begic was killed.

“I want everybody to know I take your safety and everyone in the community’s safety very seriously,” said St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson. “I heard your message loud and clear. You want to make sure you are safe. I want to make sure you are safe in every neighborhood in our city.”

Dotson also said the strain Ferguson has put on his department is great as officers have been working 12 hour shifts and no days off, but he assured the crowd the police will be here to protect them.

You should write an app for white people so they can check their phone to see if something is racist or not since it changes so often. You could get rich and then come live with us in the white neighborhoods. I wouldn't mind having you as neighbor, as long as you keep that rap music to a minimum.
