But history has taught us that the justice system isn't always right. It's not infallible. And there are times when you should speak out on something.

Not the President Marv, it's not his place no matter what color he is. The justice system is not perfect, but it's not for the President to pick sides.

I would agree with you in the Treyvon Martin case. Much to protest against and be concerned about there in that case.

Michael Brown appears to be the opposite. I see no reason to be protesting, and I think it is similar to false claims of rape or abuse in. It cheapens the impact of such claims in legitimate cases of police brutality.

I wasn't talking about the color. We are on different sides of this, and that's cool. I think something that is viewed as an injustice should be called out, no matter what your position is. But that's just me.

I think folks aren't talking about the crime itself. There's no doubt he was in the wrong. My take is their talking about the way people are treated.

There's an article in Yahoo that interviewed a police officer about the stark contrast in treatment of criminals. The comment that stood out the most was, "When I encounter a black criminal, I take precautions for myself. When I encounter a white criminal, I take them for myself AND him."

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

These cases are about race, so color comes as part of the package. But in any case, the President should not interject himself in state and local issues, that's not the way the gov't is set up and it's just not a very smart thing to do. What do you think the fallout would have been had a white President spoken out in favor of the police in either the TM or MB cases?

From experience, I don't think a white president would have spoken out about it. When the Rodney King verdict came about and the riots went down, I think GWB senior was in office. He didn't say a word.

I'm starting to think that you're right about something. When it comes to race, it might be lose/lose. I know why Obama spoke out and I agree with it because I can relate to it and I know that this country isn't exactly fair when it comes to race. But to someone like you, I can see why you view it in a different way.

And I can see your side of it as well. Granted I haven't experienced it, but I can understand it to an extent.

Thank you for the honesty Marvin!

or maybe why we have such a huge issue with race in this country is because it's never been properly dealt with. we've always had white presidents who couldn't relate and wouldn't speak about profiling or police brutality because it was not on their radar. now we have a black president who can relate and knows discussions need to take place so he speaks up. and while i'd like to believe that obama spoke up for the betterment of the american public, i can't help but think he did so for his own political means.

Always man, always. This is why I wanted to do hangouts. Messages here get lost in translation. I can articulate better speaking than writing, more room to explain things.

You're welcome.

Truth. If he didn't speak from the heart, shame on him.
