Yes tonight! The bad part is I have to work a little, only part days, while she's here. Only two of the days she'll be home alone for a few hours but as she sleeps in pretty good, I'm sure it'll be okay. We'll establish the same ground rules as she does with her dad and I'm going to pick up a cheap pay as you go phone so she can call me.

Yeah she's had classes on how to be alone. She spends about 2 hours after school on her own.

I know, right? I was just thinking that my parents would shove me out the door at that age, I'd take the train into Manhattan and hang out. If you weren't coming home at night, you'd go use a pay phone and call.

I think part of it was that my mother was raised in Queens and back then, if you could walk, out the door you went for the day and your parents wouldn't see you again until dinner. I think that has probably changed in recent years.

Well, I guess it's who you ask. I'd want my kids to be independent, but with a good cushion for safety.

I'm picturing burnt out buildings and piles of garbage.

Well, times have changed with child-rearing. A lot of stuff got swept under the rug way back in the day and I think parents could have been a little more protective.
