Speaking of section 8 housing, where's Trophie?

I'd never take it. Do you know the kind of places you get to live in? Yuck-o.

not true.

Some landlords love to work with Section 8. They charge double to triple the fair rate. Well, because often when section 8 stops paying, the landlords are stiffed.

The renter can find their own. As long as section 8 approves the premise, it's good to go.

At least in CT - almost all of the places that would work with Section 8 were in the ghetto. That might have more to do with the way real estate and rental markets work in different places. You can buy multi family houses (and lots and lots like these slumlords do) in the bad areas of cities in CT for incredibly cheap. You can then charge a rent that is a much greater percentage of the purchase price than you could get in a nice town. In nice towns most of the rentals are people having difficulty selling a house or academic year rentals in which you must vacate for the summer.

*shrugs* There was a ton of investigative reporting done on it by one of the city's newspapers because of the difficulty the city had with getting the slumlords to comply with landlord/tenant laws and just general nuisance and blight laws.

I would assume that the New York market works slightly differently.

i think the job is more of a planning/policy type job. at most may involve coordinating engagement sessions with s8 clients (but not do the actual engaging). hmm.

i don't really want to leave one job where i'm unhappy for another job that's exactly the same.

Flying to Seattle on 6 May 2014!

Well you know there's more people here on section 8 than anywhere else. So they're so short of housing that they have no choice but to work with all landlords. If a family finds an apartment in a great neighborhood, section 8 will come look, they will pay for it for a determined amount of time. A landlord will consider it, knowing that when section 8 stops paying, it'll take a year or more to evict, rent free. So they charge triple the amount to make up the slack. I even told my super, if he wants to get section 8, I'll take it.

The house is in a great neighborhood with the best schools in the city.

An hour is far? That's average commute here man....

Amazon is a "people's company" their business model pays less attention to profit and more to making people happy. It defies the laws of a market economy. You might like it.

And Starbucks, you get all the free coffee you can drink man. heck I'd go work for them. Ah , now I've a craving for VC coffee.....

I have one guy here, commutes from Yonkers. Now by distance, he's around 25 miles. By drive, it takes him an hour and a half on a good day. My guys in Staten island commutes 45 minutes or more, and pay 150 in tolls a month.

Yeah, I know, right? 45+ minutes has always been standard. Amazon is hiring here too, at least they were recently, and they do work from home positions for customer service plus pay your for your high speed internet.
