it is. the plus side is i'd still be able to work, and so would jonas. this was just announced last year:

Another change announced on Friday is that from next year, employers who wish to hire someone who is a foreign spouse staying here on a long-term pass can apply for a Letter of Consent. Upon issuance, the foreign spouse will no longer be counted against the foreign worker quota or require a foreign worker levy, said the Ministry of Manpower."

This means that such individuals will not be counted against the foreign worker quota that companies have to abide by - and employers will not need to pay the foreign workers' levy when employing them.

Hmm....what are they trying to achieve by doing that?

I think the stats I last read were that 30% of Singapore citizens are married to a foreign spouse. Might be higher?

I think they are mostly targeting Singaporean men who marry wives from Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. They have a harder time getting permanent residency. The wives often only qualify for long term visit passes which are valid for I think 6 months? you can extend it but it's a hassle. And before, they had a hard time finding work because employers have to pay a levy to hire foreign workers.

I mean, ideally, someday we will get Jonas a PR. But since we are not sure yet where we want to settle down, the long term visit pass suits us fine.

The easiest doctorate to get is probably something like psychology, music, education, JD, etc...

What's he going for?

He's doing biology. He's a very smart boy! He started on that kick at 3 and has never veered off that path. I think his masters will be plant genetics, as they don't have an actual degree for herpetology.

We all know what BS stands for, D ma'am.

MS = More of the Same

PhD = Piled Higher & Deeper, sigh ma'am.

I find it mildly suspicious when someone claims to be highly educated, but yet their grammar and word usage are worse than a dropout stripper's facebook status updates.

Lmao He better not!

I see this all too often! And it's about to get worse, I hear from parents that the schools (think highschool) are allowing text talk instead of real words.

That is great! You must be really proud (and totally should be).

Very much so :D
