We are actually going to get some significant snow. The Dane has been itching to use his snowblower.

I'm also pleasantly surprised at our gas bill for November despite the negative temperatures and Arctic blast. For heat, hot water, and cooking we only paid $76.

Nope, he was at work today.

Ours is significantly higher than yours nola but im sure i could get it down if i had a drill and some curtains!

Half our house didn't have curtains that month.... but we have a lot of attic insulation and when they put on the new siding they put a layer of foam insulation in between it and the old siding. I think it is not bad for a 100 year old house.

And the weather statement which sucks because my mother has an afternoon flight out tommorrow:

Natural gas is cheap right now

It was cheap before. I think when I lived in Colorado in 2008, I paid $19/month in winter for heat, cooking, and hot water. House was half the size, though.

So I can put up something on the door that stops drafts considering it has a 5/16th gap. And curtain rods for thermo curtains. Next year we'll get a new furnace which should also help and add some insulation to the attic so it's 10 or 12" instead of 4"

Yeah, we have batted fiberglass with blown in on top in some of the house. The rest is about that depth in cellulose.

We don't have thermo curtains anywhere because I don't like them - but some of the rooms have cellular shades.

The New Year's Eve science review proved this kid can slog through a sustained effort at study. So we tackled photosynthesis. Someone a while back demanded why he had to know covalent bonding and chemistry. Here it is in the mathematics of photosynthesis:

Kind of a yawner for this kid, I mean he understands it perfectly well but it isn't on par with cartoons for excitement.

So we did that first, then the plant cell and how it differs from animal cells but how they also have some of the same organelles like mitochondrion and a nucleus with DNA programming. Then all the plant structure with xylem, phloem, epidermal layers, etc. His reading vocabulary took on probably 20 words today.

He would be learning the alphabet next September if we didn't homeschool. It just blows me away. On the one hand it's ho-hum, just what we're doing every day but on the other hand it is boggling to think where he is going to be when kindergarten actually starts. lol.
