congrats Mary,

Did they tell him how long it will be before he could pick up his passport? They told Saoudi it would be a week and today makes a week and no word.

I did call the embassy this morning and the told me it still could be 3 to 4 weeks because they are waiting on more info to come back from the US.

Now I am not a rocket scientist or anything but would it not had made more since to have all of the paperwork already done and gathered before they called these men and put them thru more stress by waiting. Saoudi wants to get his ticket but he is scared to just incase they don't call him soon. This is so frustrating.

Since when does anything they do make any sense??? That place is completely messed up. I really wonder what goes on behind the scenes there.

That's awesome news Mary. Have you talked to Atif yet to see if he has the visa? It's good you're going there so you can go with him to the consulate to inquire if it takes long.

Abdel went back when they told him to and they tried saying the visa wasn't ready yet because they couldn't find his passport, so I sent an e-mail saying that he had taken the train for 8 hours and I hoped they could please find his visa and get it ready then since it would be a shame for him to go 8 hours home and then they get it ready and tell him to come back 8 hours again. They called him the morning after I sent the e-mail and told him it was ready. I don't know if they read the e-mail, but I think they did because he had already gone by that morning to see if it was ready because I told him to and they had told him "no, go away". Then they called him about 1/2 hour later to say it was ready.

I honestly think they respond to polite pressure from the USC, but who knows with them. I'm just glad it sounds like your husband is getting the visa. If they drag their feet, you have the notice from them you can take and put in their face now. You can't get much better than that!

He dropped off his passport at 9am and he picked it up at 3pm with all of our original documents and Visa in it......

Maybe Senator Dole's office has a stronger influence than other Senators....Who knows???

What I did was I actually showed up at Senator Dole's local office and talked with her representive personally....I didn't call first...just showed up. Maybe that made the difference....I really don't know...but I am eternally gratedfull to GOD and Senator Dole's office....

That is wonderful news! I can't believe you actually got an email that said something other than their canned response:

Thank you for your email inquiry. Your husband’s case requires additional administrative processing which takes place in the United States. As soon as the processing is completed he will be notified.

Regards,

IV Casablanca

It doesn't matter what I write, how nice or nasty I am, or how many times I have emailed (6). The response is always the same. I'm hoping my senator will get a useful response.

Mary, I think you got very lucky. What committees your congressperson sit on, and their past experience, as well as their connections, have a lot to do with their influence. I just checked Elizabeth Dole's record, and from what I see there I would think she could have a lot of pull at the Moroccan Consulate. She is on the senate banking committee, so that alone gives her money power. She is also quite close to President Bush, and was a member of his cabinet before becoming a senator. She was also a very active representative for the Red Cross, and sought the presidential nomination for the Republican party in 1999.

I'd say this woman has massive pull anywhere that you see a poor country, and in any agency where the President has the power to remove someone from office. Here's a link to her bio if anybody wants to check it out. http://dole.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseActio...abeth.Biography

It would be nice if all the people here had someone with so much pull to contact.

I'm really happy you're going to be able to come home with your man. I hope the rest of you that are waiting can have good results soon too.

You are lucky, they have never responded back to one of my e-mails, not one. So you must have some luck I don't have when you send them e-mails.
