Many people who convert to Islam or marry a MENA person may change or want to change their first names to have more Islamic and/or Arabe names. I am just wondering where everyone stands with this idea?

Henia is my nickname (shortened version of my full name) and I have had it since I was a child. My ex wanted to change my name, actually called me *another* for a while, which I did not reply to. My husband never asked me to change my name, actually it never even came up. But a few of his family wanted to call me by his (deceased) mother's name, which I did not want, but was honoured they would want to call me that. I feel changing the first name is pretty much useless, but to each their own.

When I reverted the Imam asked me to chose an Islamic name. He made me some sort of reversion cert. to keep on record in his office. I chose the name, Kareema. No one had ever called me that until now. When Moh found out I had an Islamic name he started calling me by it. Now he and his family only use my Islamic name.

I find this topic amusing. The thing is soooo many arabs are now using western names for their children, so it's just funny that you would change your name to an arabic one. I guess you always want what you don't have.

It is muslim because she was Abraham's wife.

That doesn't make it a muslim name, the origin of the name is Jewish.

We tend to think differently. :)

Well everywhere that I have seen the name and the meaning of it, its referred to as Jewish. This is the first time I have heard it being a Muslim name.
