Hello all! Brand new to the site, hope to file my application this week.

I am a bit confused about the fee. On the Department of State website, it lists the fee as:

Are these different fees? Is it possible for someone to help walk me through the fee timeline (with amounts) ? I know they change over time but if anyone is clear on this and is going through the process now (or just happens to know) it would be so helpful!

Thank you! :star:

You want to look at the I-129F not I-129 (you start by filing a petition with USCIS). The State Department comes at a later stage in the process.

http://www.uscis.gov/i-129f

Below is the fee schedule from USCIS:

Welcome to the forum.

For answers to your good and often-asked questions, please review the "Fees" area of the Dept. of State Nonimmigrant K1 Fiancee Visa FAQs: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/types/family/fiance-k-1.html

BTW, are you really going to submit a Form I-129 for a Nonimmigrant Worker Petition? You likely mean a Form I-129f K1 Fiancee Petition.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

You will be filing the I-129F...not the I-129. The filing fee is $340.

Once your petition is approved, your fiancé will then apply for the K-1 visa at the embassy, which costs $265.

OP, to go along with this comment by Zedayn, I would also recommend that you make yourself aware of the entire cost of the K-1 process, even after your fiance(e) is here in the States. It is in the thousands & not for everyone.

Thanks for the feedback, could you please elaborate on these costs, if you don't mind? Also, I often see the filing fee listed as $455 in some places. I know the official USCIS forms website says $340 but I am just wondering where the $455 number is coming from.

The $455 was the old I-129F fee back in 2007.

Below is the short rundown of the current fees for the K1 process:

Petition (I-129F): $340

State Department (interview/visa): $265

AOS (I-485): $1,070

ROC (I-751): $590

I-400 (US Naturalization - your choice not mandatory): $680

There are of course various other expenses beyond this (i.e. photos, airplane tickets, travel, etc.).

Don't know where you are getting $455???

Zedayn has already provided you with the correct response (response #4 in this thread):

You will be filing the I-129F...not the I-129. The filing fee is $340.

Once your petition is approved, your fiancé will then apply for the K-1 visa at the embassy, which costs $265.

Umka36 brings up a good point about relying on old information. The same applies to application and petition forms. Be sure to go to the USCIS/DOS websites for the most current forms. Sometimes they will accept previous old editions, sometimes not.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

When I first started the process I was also confused on what the fee was. The fee is listed here on this site and on other sites as $455, the information is old, but its out there...nothing to be wondering about, actually its very basic.

A basic search using the term 'K1 Visa fee' or similar will show the $455 results, in my opinion a basic search with those terms is typical when first researching the process.

Let's not propagate misinformation. The correct filing fee is $340 (not $455).

You can find the exact fees for any USCIS form, including the I-129F directly on their website http://www.uscis.gov
