I have already switched to those spiral lights. They are brighter, plus they are cheaper on the electric bill.

I have replaced the regluar light bulbs with the spiral lights too notice the difference.

While I agree that "compact energy-efficient fluorescents" are better, I think it's a mistake to outright ban the use of regular incandescent lightbulbs. Freedom of choice for the consumer is something we cherish in the country -- or at least, it should be anyway. I don't like the idea of the government meddling like this. I could see the government encouraging the use of fluorescents, but they can't (shouldn't be able to) force them on us.

I agree in principle but the incandescent bulbs use up way too much electricity. Unless someone could make a strong argument as to the difference between the quality of light, I don't see how banning these dinosaurs is infringing on consumer choice.

Sorta along the same lines here....did the consumers have a choice when leaded gasoline was changed to unleaded? How many pumps do you see for regular leaded gas? The cars today are made for unleaded gas consumption. I can see the trend going to where all lamps and light fixtures will be manufactured to use ONLY the flo bulbs. See where I'm going with this?

Excellent point! :yes::thumbs:

Interesting. I think it's a step in the right direction.

i agree. in fact, just about every lightbulb in my house is of this type. however, do you think you can afford to pay $5-7 per lightbulb when this law goes into effect?

i can see it now - instead of smuggling pot into cali, it will be light bulbs.

I saw some at Albertsons ... I think they were selling 3 of them for under 5 bucks :o

i'm getting ripped off :(

I even saw some at the dollar store the other day..... if I remember correctly, they were selling them 2 for a dollar....

I wonder if this law is going into effect due to the periodic brownouts in Cali, especially in the summer.

Those spiral bulbs are great. Yes, they're more expensive, but consider the savings in electricity when you calculate their cost.

And you don't have to change them for a while. I'm lazy. I might be picking up a few LEDs in the future. They last longer and are even cheaper to run.

I detest "spiral" bulbs. They look stupid, they make noise (I have tinnitus and can also hear every little whir click and buzz), and I don't like the light. The "normal" shaped ones are incredibly expensive here; at least as far as I've seen. Also, they take forever to put out the full amount of light.

The people who are saying that they're all for California banning incandescents make me sick. I agree with the comment someone else made. Let's ban Hummers too. In fact, let's have only one legal vehicle that can be purchased.... we'll call it the Trabant. Maybe we'll tear down all of those old, inefficient houses too.... new, modern, 'green' houses only - all historical buildings are illegal. Let's make colours illegal too. From now on, you can only buy clothes that are either black or white.

God I hate commie do-gooders who want to determine what others can and can't buy or own.

Educate yourself. They come in many different colors of light. Including soft and warm white. It's time to leave the 80's behind.

I said "I don't like the light". Did I mention colour? They pulse very quickly, like a possessed strobe light. It may not bother some people, but it bothers me.

What about the health effects of the light itself? I've read quite a few articles about the dangers of Fluorescents and i'm wondering if any of you users have experienced these symptoms as well. I would assume they'd be safe for like porch lights though which is the one that burns out the most frequently in my house.

While the articles i've linked might not be the best, they are related to what many others have said about the dangers of fluorescents.
