I'm glad that you put that part. Seriously.

Sometimes even an unarmed person can totally overwhelm an officer. What happens to the officer then, when he/she is totally helpless? Luckily, this violent person walked away instead of ending her life.

The size, race, or gender of the people involved is unimportant, imo. Cops need to be able to protect themselves. I think it is very important that cops be able to go home alive at the end of their shift.

But deserving to be shot and killed are two different things. We have to be careful about allowing our police officers to become judge and jury on the spot. We do not want a judge dredd society in a modern country.

Yes, you made a very good and clear point I wish other people could understand and yes I agree cops should be able to go home at the end of their shifts.

it's about using certain words to vent emotions/opinions that would otherwise look pretty hateful without a half-assed cover.

I can imagine what they say when they are not on VJ.

you and me both.

Imaging what we say. Is that like a fantasy of sorts ?

Okay ladies. What kind of things are you imagining "they" say when "they are not on VJ".

I think Val has some frustrations pent up this AM

You'd think it was 1930 America by not only some of these behaviors toward whites we are seeing here on VJ, but nationwide from race-baiting networks and political hacks. It has the appearance that unless there is a full admittance from all American whites that they have been keeping the black man down, and that American police are killing unarmed blacks in the streets for no reason, that the only alternative is an all out race war. It's nuts. Complete insanity with no basis whatsoever in reality. Not even a smidgen.

I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded part. Are you saying that, in the video we saw, as the beating was happening, you would have been okay if the cop had pulled her gun and wounded him by shooting him in the leg; but you wouldn't be okay if she shot him in the chest and he died?

I am completely okay with wounding him in this situation. Most cops should aim to wound, not aim to kill. This way the perpetrators can still go to jail and to the time for the crime. Dying is the easy way out, no?

And I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I'll admit I don't know much about guns or shooting; but I think that, as you're on your back, being pounded in the face, about to lose consciousness - it might be hard to pull your gun and shoot somebody in the leg.

Cops are trained to kill. This is the norm and has been for a while. It's about the perception of danger. If the person is in fear for their lives, they can use deadly force.

In theory, do you agree with this policy?

We can agree to disagree. For her to let him get the upper hand on her in the first place was poor training. She was completely unprepared for the situation.

It's the norm that should be changed. Police officers are not fighting terrorists overseas, they are in the U.S. fighting to protect American civilians who still have rights under the constitution of America.

I don't think that officer was really in danger, a few more blows would have been needed for deadly force to be justified. I want to see the pics of the bruises before I draw any conclusions. That's the chance you take when you sign up for the job.

Would you let someone twice your size and strength land at least a dozen blows to your face and head before you considered reading for your gun? What do bruises have to do with it? He pummeled the poor woman.
