I agree. I'm just commenting on the situation as described. Of course I think she should be able to work. My wife can't wait to get her EAD card and I wouldn't dream of trying to prevent her from working. However, this is something we talked about before we got married!

For the record, I was offering my opinion, not finger pointing at you. My apologies if it didn't come off that way.

Please inquire that your friend had her own counsel fluent in her language if not a native speaker. As described the pre-nuptial may be unenforceable if it provides a simple lump sum should a divorce occur. Her state of residence determines if the pre-nuptial is enforceable. She should consult an attornet here to review what she signed and under what circumstances.

its good to know she can work if she want without his influence at least :) thank you guys

I personally think doesn't matter our opinions. If for having a career and a job her marriage in is danger does she rather have a job??? Is being married just not enough for her???? Of course she has the option to work like everybody else but she is part of a marriage now, with who she has to be talking is with her husband and fixing it the best way for both of them to be happy. Yes women work in America if that was the initial question.

Maybe she can work from home?? Or she wants to be around people??? What kind of career does she have???

If the husband provides enough money she can join some church group and do week activities. Or if she wants more money that what her husband gives to her they have to talk about that too...

I think you are a free person to make choices but it doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want because people in a forum agree with you, your friends have to talk and respect each other and work on their marriage so she doesn't have to worry about assets if they get divorce or money. ( I know you said they are happy but Im just saying her new actions could affect her marriage )

I understand your point of view. people have different personalities and she is kind of a person who likes to work and that was what she was doing in her country and have college degree. He knows that too.The thing she wanted clear was, in this country whether a husband has a right to put such an influence or pressure to prevent a wife from working. I think there is such a thing in the country where she came from. and she was used to have assets of her own in her home country and salary and things like that so when she found herself in this situation without anything to call my own, at least ours with her husband, she is kind of disappointed and frustrated.

May I ask where she's from and whether her husband is of the same culture? That can be helpful in understanding the situation, too.

Why people have always talking about feminism when comes about women's right? There are many cultures where the women working as well. Many women were scientists, writers, and pioneers back in ancient times. In Bali, women had worked to support their family. These women never cried about the equal rights toward men. Women and men have same rights and it is nothing to do with feminism.

Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster.Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat

Because some guys are insecure when their woman works … and geesh, if she should make more than he …

You folks on this forum are doing a great job of convincing me to forget filing the k1 and finding an american woman. My girlfriend is saying thanks from the Philippines. Instead of putting the k1 visa package together which is sitting on my kitchen table, i have spent my time thinking about all the comments.

The first half of your last sentence is pretty much literally the dictionary definition of feminism.

She just texted me to say how much she is enjoying the typhoon in the Philippines and that she loves working 7 days a week with overtime and no extra pay. She also likes the internet that stops working whenever it wants to. It would be horrible to be a housewife in Las Vegas with 60 degree weather. Just unthinkable. She loves living in a place with no air conditioning either. Who needs central ac and heat that she would have to suffer living in?
