My Fiancee is going through DOT at SLEC. They will be closed from the DEC 24 - Dec 26, then a weekend so 5 days with no medication. They open again on the 29th. Then they are closed from Dec 30th to Jan 2nd, plus a weekend. 6 days with out medication. I am very concerned about this. Everything I have read said that skipping days can adversely affect the cure rate and can even allow the bacteria to mutate into a more resistant form.

obviously there is nothing I can do about it

Anyone else have a loved one going through this now? Are you concerned? Am I being overly concerned? I assume that they must have some guidelines to follow....

they wouldnt do anything to lessen the chances of a cure would they?

I've talked with the SLEC pulmonary doctor in the recent past and to answer your question in short, no problem.

He explained that not taking the doses on weekends or extended holidays does not adversely affect anything.

These "holiday" days will however be added to the end of your loved one's DOT. There are 130 doses to take in "approximately" 180 days. Five doses a week for weekdays turns out to be approximately 21 doses a month for 6 months. So, with previous holidays our DOT turned out to be 186 days to complete the 130 doses.

Thank you for your reply, that eases my mind quite a bit.
