Hey everyone,

I'm new to VJ and just wanted to get some feed-back on my situation. My husband and I got married this past spring in Jamaica and I submitted an I-130 for him on 05/24/14....priority date May 30th. He currently resides in Jamaica and at the time when I filed his petition I was a U.S. permanent resident. I have since become a naturalized U.S. citizen (11/21/14) and I called USCIS that very same day to upgrade my spouse's petition so he could be placed in the IR-1 category. I received an email from them on (11/26/14) which had our personal case info as it relates to myself and my husband and stated in closing:

What Our Records Show
We have updated your relative petition to reflect that you are now a U.S. citizen. As a result, your petition has moved to a new visa category for an immediate relative of a U.S. citizen. This category does not have numerical restrictions, and a visa is immediately available from the U.S. Department of State.

Your case is now being processed.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

I have not been able to view any case status online for a while now so I gave USCIS customer service hotline a call on 12/2/14 to follow-up. The representative wasn't able to view anything on her end either but she told me that VSC may be experiencing some sort of backlog with cases and advised me to try and have my spouse apply for a K-3 visa while he is in Jamaica waiting. We figured it wouldn't hurt to try seeing as though there was no extra fee involved. I submitted the I-129F with all requested documents from myself and my spouse (thank goodness for FedEx) on 12/5/14. It has been a little over 6 months now since we submitted the first petition and we just want to stay organized and prepared for the upcoming steps. Any suggestions or info as to what we can expect next would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks everyone and best of luck to you all in your journeys!

I would stay to start reading NVC guide and wikis. Start working on the things that will be needed by NVC that way you will be ready for that step in the process. It tooks us 7.5 months for approval at NVC. From the current wait times you should have approval soon if there are no isuess with your case.
