SSN

Im off to the US tomorrow lunchtime and am running around like a lunatic, can anyone give me a quick pinter on how to get a SSN. I could research, but I know you have to wait a week or 2 then apply, but where do i actually apply to?

The SSN office in Hartford is new and modern, located in the former G-Fox building (ask anyone and they can point you in the right direction, it's sort of a landmark). It has a huge waiting room, however when we went it was almost empty. I think we were there a total of 15 minutes.

Cheers, I've made a note of it anyway. Theres a SS office in Norwalk, which is where I'll be so hopefully I can use that one.

You can apply at any SSA office unless you live in the Brooklyn, NY or Las Vegas, NV areas.

This is the only location where residents of Brooklyn - both U.S. citizens and noncitizens - can apply for an original Social Security Number or for a replacement card.

Brooklyn (New York) Social Security Card Center - Located at:

Las Vegas (Nevada) Social Security Card Center - Residents of the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Henderson, Sandy Valley, Primm, Mt. Charleston and Indian Springs must conduct SSN business in person at the Las Vegas Social Security Card Center. The Center is located at:

The Brooklyn Card Center was originally a pilot and would assume it was picked because of the SSA offices in that area handling a lot of SSN applications. Have no idea why the LV office was opened other than a spot on the other end of the country was needed.
