Simply put - there are some VERY unrealistically high expectations in AOS these days.

When we filed (11/05) we fully expected to not be interviewed until mid-summer 2006. And that was if things went smoothly.

Now there have been some changes. Everybody wants a piece of it. IMO it's most unsettling.

Look at it this way. What do you think when you see a Vermont poster rattling on in K1 about not being approved after 14 days?

That they need to stay patient because the average time it takes to get an approval at VSC actually takes a month and a half, not two weeks?

My expectations were not unrealistic, not to me at least (if you read my post a few posts back). I think it's just that some people are more optimistic about this process than others.

We went through Vermont. I knew what the norms were. I was optimistic. I was not deceived into thinking they were owed me.

OK, I guess I should be a little more explicit. I have to defend myself, however, by saying that nowhere at any time in this forum have I given anyone reason to think that I expected to have anything approved expeditiously. I have often said I've hoped, but that's it. What i really, really have wanted was to see a touch anywhere on our file. Yes, yes, I know, they don't mean anything. But that's what would make me feel better. I don't even care if it's on his AOS-- I would just like to know that his being able to be employed is in the works.

But I will continue to stand by my original point here. High expectations or no, I don't feel, nor will I ever, that sarcasm and purposeful belittling have a place in this forum.

this whole thing started i guess because i wanted to know what ajmc wanted after only two months, same as sarahsmiles.

Actually, I thought I made it pretty clear when i said, "It's not like I want us to be approved tomorrow."

And what rebeccajo says is true : "Everyone wants a piece of it." Isn't it natural to feel that way when people ARE getting approved so quickly?

No, I don't think it should be natural. It's something new and could be done away with at any moment.

It might be natural to be envious and to want it. It's not natural to expect it.

I guess what we're dealing with here are two sets of mindsets: Optimism and Pessimism. Let's just agree that some of us are optimistic, and some of us are pessimistic. Because of this, our opinions on this matter will never agree. Let's just embrace that fact and move on.

Sarah, I understand about the EAD thing. Really, I'd suggest you take a look at those numbers. There's no reason to assume his EAD isn't being handled. But it IS in line. A long line. I don't see EAD's getting lost or dropped. There are new mandates on those and the process has much more accountability than it did a year ago.

As far as belittling goes....that's all in the eye of the beholder. It's a two-way street you know. I've had my husband called all but a terrorist on here by virtue of the country of his birth. Suppositions are made as that's why his security clearance isn't done. I really don't think its out of order to ask some posters to calm down and take a deep breath. There really are times when people don't need to worry and agitate.

Nor did sarahsmiles or myself think we were owed anything. So we shared our worries and our frustrations? We weren't expecting to be molly-coddled NOR belittled.

Last time I looked, VJ was a community where people supported each other. And in my opinion, belittling is not a form of support.

What bothers me about the EAD is that I have seen so many people getting theirs approved around 30 days after biometrics. Does the namecheck affect EAD?

As the resident seemingly expert on namecheck, what about when someone else from the same country of origin with the same name has also been granted a U.S. visa? Is this a big problem? I happen to know that this is the case with us.

And I don't have any problems with the suggestion to relax and calm down, just the way that it was must across. But then again, that could be largely due to the lack of any voice-related cues like tone, etc. T hat's a limitation of this kind of forum.

No that isn't what we are dealing with.

We are dealing with realitistic expectations.

You can have all the optimism in the world but if your file gets lost in a blackhole, that won't lift it from the depths.

You can have a devil-may-care attitude about your whole petition - slop it together and stick it in the post - and get approved tomorrow.

I don't think you are wrong, ajmc, to maintain an upbeat outlook. Not at all.

I would ask you this though - if you were sitting in my shoes - 15 months since filing - your case not touched in 7 months - your state Senator telling you there is nothing he can do - your only option hiring an attorney to the tune of like 2 grand and suing the government - how 'chilled' would you be?

Those of us sitting here in that postition - we can support and be optimistic for the rest of you. And we are happy you aren't where we are. But it's REALLY very very difficult to see peoples expectations being raised beyond the point of all reasonableness just because the government is test-piloting one area of a service center. That's not optimism. That's rose colored glasses.

Namecheck doesn't seem to affect EAD. My husband was just granted his second EAD. But we waited a full 90 days for it. And it was NEVER touched after the NOA1 - not even after the biometrics. It was not touched until it was approved.

You're going to drive yourself mad thinking about somebody else with the same name from the same country being approved for their greencard. It's like comparing your visa petition to someone elses. You know what I mean? I can also tell you that birthdates are checked. So that makes the cases different also.

Yes indeed, voice does make a big difference. I think Samra just was having some fun. If she's feeling anything at all like me - well about the only thing that settles you on some days is a stiff drink and big 'who the hell cares anymore' let-it-all-out woo hoo! It'd be nice to think that people who have been 'waiting' a couple of months would allow that.

karen - you probably should have bolded a few words prior to that. not that this discussion needs to keep going and going, but seriously, 2 months is not an inordiante amount of time in which to wait for some action be it biometrics, transfer, or interview letter, is it?

this whole thing started i guess because i wanted to know what ajmc wanted after only two months, same as sarahsmiles. i merely was posing a suggestion to relax, and guess what? same day after 3 posts from ajmc's worry she gets her interview letter!

My husband and I filed in JULY. We've been waiting 6 months, not two. Now, with that said if everyone else here had been waiting like that too instead of some with 45 day approvals, I wouldn't be saying a damn thing right now.
