Tracy, I'm foraging through that memo right now and it states that AOS would include AP and EAD - for however long it takes to adjust the applicant. So no renewal fees. That would be a blessing. (pages 25 and 26 of the memo).

Very nice find BTW.

Wow! I'm really shocked that they would do that!

You know what....I've kind of got no problem with the fee for the I-129F being raised.

Might cut down on some of the BS petitions. Ya know what I mean?

Of course, I've said for years a person ought to have to pay $2000 for a marriage license, be at least 25 years of age, take a mandatory 3 months domestic financial planning course, be subjected to a medical exam, and have a psychological exam copy of which is mailed to the other party - before you can get married! *winks*

Page 23:

"Following the last comprehensive fee review in FY 1998, USCIS’ predecessor was only able to maintain the status quo and the backlog actually increased despite significant fee increases in FY 1998."

I think I would bet a few bucks that that's what is going to happen again ;)

That's a real possibility! :)

I like the idea of an all inclusive fee for however long it takes to adjust status. If this had been implemented before we filed AOS, I wouldn't have minded paying a fee like this. It's ridiculous that any of us have to pay more than once for the EAD as it is.

As for the backlog of apps, I don't think the increase in fees will eliminate that at all. Nothing they've done so far has been able to help with that problem. As for the increase in fees helping the USCIS becoming more efficient with better customer service, I somehow doubt that too. You can't fix stupid.

I do hear that. At the same time, though, the idea of the non BS petitioners paying for the fact that K3ers no longer have a fee at all (for the I 129 f) seems a tad unfair. Why not reduce the fee for K3 related I 129fs and raise the K1 related fee slightly (instead of making the K1s take the entire hit)?

That, combined with the higher fees for AOS, almost makes the fiance visa less appealing -- high filing fee and arriving w/out work authorization (and thus the ability to assist with the higher AOS fees)? Its a financial combination that might make a lot of couples (particularly financially strapped ones) think less about the K1 and more about the CR1/IR1.

Hmmm....that's a good idea too. Sometimes I wonder if maybe we should have gone the CR1/IR1 route...

so let me get this straight..all these changes will go into effect October 2007?

if that the case..i and filing like a mofo when this man gets here..just do it all when its cheaper

The document read fiscal year 2007, which would be June. But the Yahoo article I read about it said October 2007. I'm inclined to believe the USCIS document first, although that seems pretty fast for a govt body to move  although if they're going to get more $$ out of the deal, maybe not...!

ooooh---you are SUCH an instigator!

Poor things, break it to them gently.

btw, it was many hours ago that I read the press releases, but I gleened that the proposed increase, IF it takes place, would be effective FY 08/09. That's October 07 in our language.
