Hey if that keeps the racist boogeyman alive and well for you, have it at it. Must be nice. I wish I lived in a fantasy land where everything bad that happened could be blamed on something else rather than those responsible. You should write a novel, or sell a screenplay. You have an incredible imagination.

I have a tummy ache. I blame you.

If I write a script, I'll give you a cut. And I'm going to get David Duke to play Lib. Penny is going to be played my Meryl Steep. Julia Stiles for Val. I would cast Teddy but Jim Belushi isn't here so I can't see anyone else playing him. I got Scott Baio to play you, and I'll be played by Denzel of course.

Janelle, I got you baby! Halle Berry just because dammit.

He was arrested for other things in the past according to the link Marvin posted.

i was just commenting on that particular crime because that is the crime that the officer recognized him from.

it really does not matter what crime he committed in the past. you know jail? fines? that's supposed to be your restitution, you've done your time. it's not supposed to follow you around your whole life. if it was supposed to work that way there would be absolutely zero incentive to better oneself after being charged with a crime.

So he had resisted arrest before and was arrested for assault? Is it possible he was pretty well known to these cops and that's why they got physical with him? Obviously he didn't deserve to die but I don't think the police were trying to kill him either. My problem with this case lies with what happened after he was taken down and became unresponsive.

My issue was he wasn't even doing anything when they approached him. He wasn't selling anything. Initial reports were a fight had happened and he helped to break it up. When they found out it was him, they started asking him about selling the contraband. That's why he got irritated. They pressed about it and that's when things got out of hand.

Yeah right. It does follow you around for the rest of your life. Trust me on that.

Even if someone has a history of selling illegal cigarettes in the past, and you see that person selling cigarettes, is it wrong to think he might be selling illegal cigarettes again? Not only that, it's not like they walked up to him and started kicking his azz right off the bat. He takes the majority of the blame in escalating the confrontation.

What was the official reason for his arrest? I missed that.

Neighborhood where Eric Garner died after an NYPD cop placed him in a chokehold has only gotten worse: landlord

EXCLUSIVE: A rattled Staten Island landlord has repeatedly contacted cops about his nightmares on Bay St. The Daily News obtained 311 call summaries and emails to the 120th Precinct, with the number of complaints escalating dramatically over a 15-month stretch before Garner’s fatal encounter with cops.

A rattled Staten Island landlord repeatedly contacted the cops about the nightmare on Bay St.: dope dealers, cigarette peddlers, public urination, threats of rape and assault.
Then Eric Garner, a suspected seller of untaxed cigarettes, died in the midst of his July 17 arrest. A month later, things on the block are even more out of control.
“It has only gotten worse, much worse, since Eric died,” the landlord told the Daily News ahead of Sunday’s one-month anniversary of Garner’s death.
“Now the police, they don’t want to have another incident there so they have a hands-off approach,” said the landlord, who asked not to be identified. “Anyway you slice it, it’s a mess.”
Things certainly didn’t appear any better Friday on the Tompkinsville block where Garner, 43, died after a cop wrapped his neck in a lethal chokehold.
On a bright afternoon in broad daylight, dozens of men and women aimlessly roamed the Bay St. sidewalk. Loiterers stood outside buildings, intimidating the residents and passersby.
One man, sitting in a chair, sold loose cigarettes for 75 cents apiece just feet from the spot where Garner collapsed to the sidewalk, fighting for his last breath.
A visibly drunken woman, clutching a large can tucked inside a paper bag, stumbled through Tompkinsville Park as its denizens watched with disinterest from surrounding benches.
Undercover police in unmarked cars occasionally rolled by. One parked for a while and then drove off. No one was arrested.
“They still sell loose cigarettes, they’re selling drugs, they’re hanging out, fighting,” said Randy Vitucci, 60, a driver for Dejoy’s Red Top cabs.
“It quieted down for a little bit right after the memorial, but then it went right back to business as usual,” the cabbie continued. “These people, most of them, don’t live in the neighborhood. They hang out in the park all day long.”
The neighborhood problems predate the death of Garner, the 350-pound asthmatic busted for peddling “loosies.”

i said how it was supposed to work. you have a record, yes. but having prior arrests should not afford cops the right walk up and start stirring the pot. well, most places except new york.

and whatever about he takes the majority of the blame for escalating the confrontation. there was no need for a confrontation to begin with.

You didn't miss it. There wasn't one. Like I said, there were reports of a fight. Eric had reportedly broken it up. From what I'd read they approached him and after explaining it, they started asking if he was selling. He said no and started getting upset which led to the unfortunate events.
