I have contacted the US consulate in France but no response yet. Should hear something later this week. In the meantime, I am looking for anyone who actually took the interview in a foreign country so I can verify that their residency was checked by asking them to show resident card or similar document.

It is stated so on the Consulate's website in Canada where i currently reside as a permanent resident. My interview is in January and I will have to prove my residency status.

So i would suggest you to contact embassy in France and describe your particular situation. If your spouse was a resident at the time you applied for the imm.visa, may be they can accommodate your request.

Yes, we have contacted the US embassy in France and once they respond, we are hoping to provide them with French resident card valid up till Nov 30th 2014. We have explained to them the fact that it takes a very long time to transfer the case to the US embassy in her home country from the one in France. Hopefully they will accommodate our request and things go smoothly.

I will go ahead and read up the details on US consulate in Canada website just to get an idea as well.

Hi all

just a quick check...

The ds-260 confirmation that is requested to bring to the interview, is this just the email that i would have got after submitting the ds-260 online? The email says 'immigrant visa and alien registration application confirmation' , it then goes on to give confirmation of receipt of the application and instructions for next steps...at the bottom of the page it states my name and case number etc...

It may sound like a silly question but just want to make sure i'm taking all of the correct documentation...

Thanks :)

Just an idea, have you tried to extend her residency for couple of months. explaining to the french authorities your situation. It is shot no harm in trying.

best of luck

If i remember it correctly, they have a special declaration form for goods you bring as an immigrant. Check the US Custom website. Receipts are good to have.

We didn't have to fill out ANYTHING other than a standard customs form. If you are shipping goods unaccompanied, then you need to have the appropriate form - but not if you are just carrying your own checked luggage.
