Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized Monday, co-owner Roy Jackson said. Which we know from threads yesterday or so. My newspaper took a poll and ask for responses:

SHould Barbaro have been euthanized sooner?

Some responses were for earlier, some said no give him more chance, some said he was just a horse why spend thousands

So what do you think?

I think they made the right choice yesterday, he was going downhill and they did the humane thing. As for him being put down sooner, no i dont think so, he was making tremendous strides to recover, as his leg that was operated on was healing nicely. Just the laminitis was the downfall. I actually was talking about this with a doctor at work today.

I agree with you too. Why put him down sooner when he was recovering well and not suffering too much?

Yes I agree it is humane to put down an animal if its state is poor, suffering and leading to slow death anyway. I think their decisions came in right time, since if an animal is doing well why put it down?

Personally, I don't think it's anyone's call to make other than the horse's owner.

I saw a news report on CNN and they didn't go into detail, but stated several times that the horse was so ill he no longer seemed interested in the filleys. The only reason I could imagine the owners would want to keep an ailing horse alive was for breeding purposes...and if the horse was to ill to be able to do that there was no reason to keep him around. They gave it a good try though, but the injuries were too severe.

I don't think they put Barbaro down because he couldn't breed! I think they did it for humane reasons. I'm sure they could have gotten him to breed if that's what they really wanted. They've probably got tons of his ####### stored already anyway.

I don't think they put Barbaro down because he couldn't breed! I think they did it for humane reasons. I'm sure they could have gotten him to breed if that's what they really wanted. They've probably got tons of his ####### stored already anyway.

Nope... They talked about this on local radio yesterday. Something about it being against the rules to artificially inseminate race horses. When they breed them it's natural. Sadly, poor Barbaro didn't get to be a stud horse.
