Just wanted to stop in and say sawasdee krup...

Lek received her K1 a little while ago and now we're just waiting on my pre-arranged vacation time (Aug-31 depart Kansas City for BKK - Sept-21 depart BKK for SFO).

I've been following all this for nearly 2 years now so it's just a matter of sitting down and mapping out the next 6 months.

I miss her so much and am so looking forward to our trip. We're going to go visit the family first for a few days then Cha-am, Hua-hin, then I think she wants to maybe go to Lunprabang (not sure if we'll do that or not) and since I've got a bunch of points for Hyatt Hotels we might go back to Bali for a few days.

Once here in the States we'll spend a few days in San Francisco then head to Las Vegas and on to Kansas City to start our married life together.

Hi...

To All Thai Immigrants...

I'm really starting to freak out a bit. I'm so worried that my Thai fiancee will have a very hard time when she moves here. I live in Kansas City, MO and it's NOTHING LIKE Thailand and about 50 times smaller than Bangkok. There's not really any sort of Thai-town here and I know very few people (2) from anywhere near Thailand.

Short of talking to the owners of Thai restaurants... how would you suggest that I find places for her to be comfortable. "Community" is a big part of life in Thailand and maybe if I can meet some folks here I could even find her some work?

Talking to the owers and workers at Thai restaurants is a good idea. Ying and I did that and she found the Thai community in Southeastern WI. She also speeds time at some internet sites that are for Thai women living in the US. Through those sites she has been in contact with other Thais in the area. We are also lucky because there is a Thai lady that I knew from my company's Thai office that moved into our area and now works at the same facility as me.

Good Luck!

Hi-

I am in the process of getting my fiance's documents translated while we are both still in Thailand since it will be much cheaper than trying to do in the US. I know we need a certified translation of his birth certificate when applying for AOS. Does this need to also be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or is the certification from the translation agency enough?

Thanks for any advice!

The only document we had "certified" by the MFA was one from the US embassy saying I was free to marry (US doc - translated to Thai - certified by MFA - presented at Amphur when applying for marriage).

I did not have Rin or the children's BC certified by MFA (just filed AOS in June). Since some people wait until they are in the US before getting the translation, I would imagine most would not have the MFA certification document.

Thanks, John. I did a bit more research today and am pretty certain it's not necessary. I'm sure the translation agency was just suggesting it so they could charge me an extra 1,500 baht and have it done for me, probably for a fraction of that cost! I told them, No Thanks. I think the normal certified translation is all that's required.

Sawasdee kap everyone!

I have a question about renewing my wife's Thai passport. It expires is December. I have found the renewal applications online but I have 2 questions.

1. Can they be mailed in to the Thai embassy with the passport for renewal? She works in a Thai restaurant, and all the ladies that have been here a few years are telling her that she must make a trip to LA to renew it (we live in Vegas).

2. What is the best procedure to deal with her name change? File other papers with the renewal application, or just leave her passport in her maiden, Thai, name? I mean her Thai ID card won't match her passport if we change her name on the passport.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks, and best of luck to all the Thais here!

I thought that the I-693 IS the medical examination. What I did for mine was that since I didn't have any vaccination records, I just went to my health insurance physician (who is not a cs) and brought the list of the required vaccines with me. She then looked it over to see which ones comply with my age group and ordered an antibody test to check immunization (MMR, chicken pox, polio, stuff that I'm sure I got but have no records of) and gave me ones that can be updated (tetanus, flu shot, TB test). Then I took the lab results to the cs, he looked it over, gave me the HPV shot, filled the I-693 out and I'm good to go. By the end of the process, I think you should have the sealed envelope to be included in the AOS package and a copy that the cs gave you for and that's it.

Hope it helps.

Hmmm, I just got my employer to sign a letter stating that my position is a permanent, full time position, salary and that my employment is in good standing (i.e, my boss is not planning to fire me anytime soon) and thats it. That's the advice I got from other people in the AOS subforum anyways. I also included my pay stubs from the previous 6 months and an offer of employment letter from my hubby, stating the same info.

I also included a copy of my health insurance card, just in case.
