When Can I apply for SSN number for K1 visa Arrival?

This is no longer the case. With the introduction of the electronic I-94, the SAVE database is updated immediately at POE.

Sometimes some SSA offices has employees that do not know about the rules. Based on people's experience on VJ, some of them were successful applied after their arrival and some others were not. Technically you can apply but better to check at your local SSA office.

I've also been researching this topic as my fiancée just recently entered the US. I've read many posts that says that the fiancée can apply for a SSN immediately, however, I've also read the following on the SSA website the following requirement applies.

Government benefits or services: If you do not have permission to work, you may apply for a Social Security number only if:

• A federal law requires you to provide your Social Security number to get a particular benefit or service; or
• A state or local law requires you to provide your Social Security number to get general assistance benefits for which you already have qualified.

If you need a number to meet these state or local requirements, you must bring us a letter from the government agency. It must be on letterhead stationery (no form letters or photocopies) and...

Did other people experience a problem with this? Based on this it appears that you can't just get a SSN without some justifiable reason, but this is counter to everything I've read here on VJ regarding this topic.

That doesn't apply to K-1 visa holders, who are considered as LEGAL ALIENS ALLOWED TO WORK...in other words, at least for the SSA, they are considered to have permission to work. However, in order to ACTUALLY work legally, they also have to apply for a work authorization document, the EAD.
