This might be where things are getting lost. the K1 is considered a Non immigrant visa.

This is definitely interesting, but we have emailed the Montreal consulate twice and both times they have claimed to be "the only Canadian consulate processing immigrant visa applications." So unless they are just outright lying to us, for now we will assume that their information is more accurate than whoever is in charge of social media over at the US Embassy - Ottawa. We have been in contact with the two couples with our same timeline and are awaiting to hear which consulate they are contacted by. If they are able to verify that they can schedule their interviews in Vancouver then I will consider contacting my congressman. We are going to attempt to reach the Vancouver consulate by phone as well, as they have not responded to our email. Thank you everyone for your contributions and we will continue to keep you all up to date on our progress.

Go for it! Thank you for keeping us updated :)

This might be where things are getting lost. the K1 is considered Non immigrant visa.

This makes sense. Maybe this is where the confusion is.

We have made it very clear in both emails that we are applying for K1 visa and that is the response we have been given both times. Also K1's are listed under immigration visas on the CSC website (https://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_immigrant_visas) because " Fiancé(e) Visas are included in this section because even though they are technically nonimmigrant visas, they are processed by the immigrant visa unit."

This is awful! I just booked my interview in November and there were lots of open appointments in Vancouver from now until February. I got my packet 3 a while ago though. I hope that they rethink this decision. It is bad enough that there is only 2 consulates doing interviews, but to go to only one seems crazy between the cost of flying domestically in Canada and that Montreal can't keep up now as it is!

Also hope that they don't change any current interviews to Montreal. I already booked my flight!

Good chance the person that replied was new, or a family member that works in the consular section is new and not aware.....If I were the American citizen..would prob be contacting my congress person..they like this easy cases

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Do you think I can call NVC now? 14 days after NOA? Or still too early? Should I wait another 2 weeks?

You can call.. they might just tell you to wait... but they might also tell you that they received your application and have forwarded.. Kind of a toss up. I think we started calling around three weeks and they had processed it.

a happy friday for my fiance and i!

we received our packet 4 via email today at 7am and then by 8 am they released appointment dates at the montreal consulate so we were able to book for January 15th! i am booking my medical in vancouver for earlier in january so i only have to go to montreal for the interview and dont have to spend the extra days required for the medical results to be released.

so although this requires a trip to montreal, it is amazing news and now we have a date that we know we will be together!!!

i hope you all have similar luck and just to give you hope, from the date we sent the petition in to the interview date was 4 months exactly:)

hope everyone has a great weekend!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thank you for doing this! Last night I was so stressed checking how much the air fare and hotel is in Montreal.

I really hope this is true, Vancouver is still processing K-1 & K-3 applications. :dancing::dancing:

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Yes.. W T H ???

I think it is normal speed for CSC? Maybe your case was at TSC? I am also new. I do not understand how it is faster for other people and slower for some.

When I did K1 I was at VSC and it was slow!

I just caught up on this thread, and though I have nothing super valuable to add...This is amazing and makes me feel so much better while I wait for my NOA2.
