WHAT DO YOU CALL IT

My family used to occasionally say supper for the evening meal, but for some reason we stopped... I think it was maybe from growing up with immigrant grandparents. Now it's breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I live in Kentucky now, and I still can't get over people asking what kind of coke you want.. it's pretty funny.

As a continuation on the theme - where I grew up in Canada (B.C.) we would call shoes you wear to workout in "runners", here they are sneakers.

Other words that are different: no one says washroom, toque... and if something is on the floor, apparently it is IN the floor.

I enjoy the differences though

Hubby calls soda, mineral or lemonade, guess its a n. ireland thing.

He also calls supper dinner or tea.

I always used to say washroom - I got enough wierd looks and now I just say restroom because everyone seems to get that one.

Definitely couch.

After supper i would probably sit on the couch with a pepsi causeing me to find the bathroom after tripping over my tennis shoes.

I call it dinner.

we say couch or sofa around here, dosen't really matter. and locally, athletic shoes are TENNIES!!!! or if you are in more formal company, 'tennis shoes'.

I say restroom but I've noticed most people around me say bathroom.

I was taught:

Dinner is the evening meal if the meal was the “entertainment” or main event.

Supper was the meal supplementing the evening’s entertainment (movie, theater, concert, etc).

Lunch was lunch ... breakfast was breakfast ... then along came brunch. Wow, another chance to eat during the day !

I used to call dinner 'tea' when I was younger. Settee and toilet. Although I do now say bathroom when I'm out somewhere now to avoid people looking at me strangely..
