Wondering if more of a Southern thing to say supper? around here you could also say dinner meaning lunch. THen have breakfast, dinner, supper or breakfast, lunch, dinner. This came from a conversation i was having with someone in N Caroline they insisted supper. Interesting

I have lived in Texas all my life and I have always known it as Dinner.

One time this guy in K-Mart stopped me and asked me out to SUPPER and for some reason it made me laugh. I think he thought I was laughing at the thought of going out with him but I was laughing at the use of supper, just took me by surprise I guess. Well I was 18 and he looked about 45, that may have something to do with it as well

ETA: While we are on the subject... Coke, Pepsi and others like them are all SODA, I refuse to call them pop. Yes I am an outcast. (most people around here ask for a coke e.g. 'What kind of coke do you want? Do you want a Coke coke?' 'Oh I'll have a Dr. Pepper!')

most people around where I live now call lunchtime dinner, and the after work meal supper. However to me, lunch is lunch, dinner is after work, and supper is sometime after 9pm and can range from a 3 course meal to eggs and toast.

But the people around here also start saying "have a good evening" or "I'd like an evenign appointment" at around 11:30 in the morning somehow

I'm from South Carolina (for the last 33 years). I think of dinner as the biggest meal, so I say breakfast/lunch/dinner unless the biggest meal of the day is at midday. On Thanksgiving Day I say breakfast/dinner/supper since we have the big meal around 2 pm. I never call the midday meal supper; supper, for me, is exclusively an evening meal. Dad's from SC and Mom's from Ohio. Dunno if it's parents or culture in my case. It's confusing in any case.

It's soda for me also. Pop is what my cousins in Ohio call it. But coke is often the generic term here...though for some, it's simply "a drink," or better yet, "a drank."

I would say im going to the store to buy some "pop", "coke" used to stand for all kinds but i dont know so much anymore. Do you want to go out and get a coke? then get there and order a Pepsi etc.
