 Ah, yes. Complain about cliches and then trot out the cliche of the privileged illegal immigrant. The voting, privileged illegal immigrant, no less.

I'm sorry you feel that the "voting illegals" that work is a cliché. Perhaps it is. But these folks exist in significant numbers and are certainly in contrast to the monochromatic picture you painted. As far as saying privileged, well, that's your opinion.

It seems like a contradiction that you profess to stand against illegal immigrations and yet you abet more than a few of them.

Sorry, being friends with someone is not "abetting." You may need to look that word up. I have not encouraged nor assisted with their entry into the country illegally, nor have I encouraged or assisted them in remaining illegal.

You missed my point entirely. A vast majority of illegal immigrants are good people with families that are only trying to better their position. I do not begrudge that. I do however take issue with a government that puts the needs of those choosing to be here illegally in front of people trying to follow the law that are stuck in a poorly managed, broken process. I cannot believe it matters what side of the political spectrum you come from, I could not imagine anyone believing that is appropriate.

So yes, I have friends that are here illegally. Just some folks I met over the years working along the border. They are good people. But I still believe the government has the duty to process those legally waiting in line before those who chose a different illegal pathway. My friends that are here illegally do not hold my belief against me at all... in fact they agree. As I said, I support some form of amnesty because 12 million folks are here and the problem is going to go away. I also recognize the human toll it takes on many of these families. It is indeed tragic. They need a pathway to get legal and integrated fully. BUT...that should not come BEFORE the current process is addressed. But that won't ever happen because government is only searching for votes. That's the hard truth. I agree with the OP by trying to bring visibility to the plight of the families caught in the nightmare of the legal immigration processed and I commend that. Folks drawing attention to this should not be shushed up for saying so.

As John R. has stated on numerous occasions, he struggles with English. so please be patient.

I don't think I missed your point. I wanted to point out what I have highlighted below. There comes a time when 'they' and 'these people' become personal because they have names, faces and lives - no different than ours, and while I agree that the immigration laws are broken and overabused - pardon the neologism - the fact remains that we can't simply apply the same measure to all those who are already in the US. The task at hand - a daunting one, no doubt - is to sift through and separate those who really should be considered for some sort of pardon from those who should at best be deported immediately. I wouldn't want to be in charge of taht though.

Is it any more ridiculous than breaking into another country, uninvited, demand health insurance, food stamps, driver's licenses and legal status?

It's not breaking in when the leader of that country puts policies in to place that encourages them to come illegally. I find odd that no one has a problem with a president that institutes unilateral policies that encourage illegal behavior. Also, no one on the left cares because they are so blinded with the prospects of future voters/supporters that the law is just some silly thing not to be bothered with. Seems Obama slept through all those constitutional classes at Harvard, if he actually attended them at all.

As far as getting money back, good luck with that. You have a better chance of hitting the lottery. Let me help you with that: 1-23-33-42-48 PB 5

Requesting never hurts. No more ridiculous than anything else that is being requested an approved.

Is there any way to remove off topic posts from a thread?

Yes.

Folks, there are plenty of threads in which to banter, and there are other threads. Numerous off-topic posts have been removed, along with some others that were unnecessarily derisive and dismissive. Put yourself in the OP's shoes, and think how you'd feel if your thread were derailed.

The on-topic discussion here is excellent. Please add to it in similar fashion and spirit.

I somehow missed this post before. It is an excellent summary of my feelings, and I think the majority of people would agree.

Thanks to the moderators for their help keeping the thread on topic.
