Hi guys, obviously I could not contain my excitement and was caught up with parties over the weekend, but I passed!

My appointment was at 11 and I got there 10:40. Leaving there by 12:30 because the IO ran late with previous interviews.

Anyway, my IO was rigorous and she went through my application in great details. She asked me why my wife did not go with me and wanted to see my wife's passport which I did not have. She also wanted to see my 2-year GC which I did not have either.

I don't remember all the civics questions because I studied them too much and I did not even think (haha). I can only remember 4 of them:

- When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

- Who is the speaker of the house?

- What is one of the longest rivers?

- What are the first ten amendments called?

It took more time going through the application than taking the test. She made me nervous at times but all was good. I am now hoping if I could get scheduled for oath on March 19, that would be sweet!!

Attention New Yorkers! i.e. Mom1, Pooh007, vwguy, Lena Welcome, saaibi

Contrary to rumor, the NYC service center does not appear particularly backlogged:

On March 9, 2015, we scheduled an interview for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization...We will mail you an interview notice.

That's a total of 55 days from "In Line" to "Interview Scheduled" for me. I wish you all the same speediness.

that is just awesome! congrats! today is day 40 in-line for me. Good luck to everyone else.

Sounds like you might only be 2 weeks away from getting the same message then. It would be pretty cool if we ended up in the same ceremony and could put a face to the screen-name!

Sorry for the late update, it looks like most of the people are getting their interview notices already. I got mine a couple of days ago.

On March 9, 2015 we scheduled an interview for your Form N400, Application for Naturalization...

Time to start reviewing the 100 questions. :)

I just had my test/interview this morning. Reading/writing, 6 civics/history questions, then she went (very thoroughly) through my application. She made 3 changes that I thought I would tell you about, in case anyone else is in a similar situation:

1) she changed my application from 3 years (based on marriage) to 5 years. I qualified for both, but she said that it would be easier if I apply for my self/on my own account. So she changed it on the form.

2) I had applied for a name change - I wanted to turn my maiden name into my middle name and my husband's last name into my new last name. She said I didn't need to wait until naturalization to do this, but since I provided my marriage certificate, she could just do and right there. She changed a couple of things in the forms, and had me sign everything (photos too) with my new name. With the naturalization certificate and my marriage certificate she said I can now apply for new documents (driver's license, SS card etc)

and 3) I had been out of the country for almost 7 months. She checked the dates in my expired passport, said she had read the letter provided by me why I had been out of the country (dissertation research/scholarship my husband had to do for his phD) and wrote a note on that part, approving my absence.

I had to sign these three changes on the last page of the N400.

Then she asked if I wanted to come to an (additional) oath ceremony scheduled for next Wednesday, which I could attend since my name change was not based on my naturalization any longer. I said yes (of course) and she said I should get the letter in the next couple of days!

Hopefully now it'll be all done/over with next Wednesday :) Good luck to all of you with your interviews - that part was really not bad at all!

Please update my oath date for 3/18 :)
